The "Black panther wasn't that good" take is the new movie hipster line that has to be discussed

Is this your King?? *Looks away in shame*

People are wrapped up in the "movement" and "representation" aspect so much that any legit criticism gets dismissed as being contrarian/hate.

Truthfully that's not just BP, all the Marvel flicks get buoyed along by the CGI-newness of it all. Most will not age as well as people think.

EDIT: hold up..."GOAT villain"? :pachaha:
Killmonger is at lowest the fourth best mcu villian ever

Let's discuss... what truly is better than BP outta the MCU?

-i'd say infinity war is better... to me that's probably the #1 MCU movie... that's truly the pinnacle and it has a lot of dope themes that are explored to go along with a top notch villain.. the build to it... and all the action sequences.. That's truly Marvel's Empire..

-
Winter Soldier is not really a political thriller but it's close and is probably the most grounded MCU movie.. clear motivations on all sides and dope action scenes.. That's probably also better than BP but they are close..

-iron man is a great origin but not better than BP

-GOTG is great because it's a true space opera but better than BP? ehh....

-Spider-Man No Way Home is now in the convo.. for sure..

As i said.. BP probably a top 3-5 MCU movie.. :jbhmm:

I watched the movie about 6-8 months after the hype died down. Ive been a black panther fan ever since i saw him in that animated Ultimate Avengers movie years back.

Movie was a B or B+.

1. I was hype as fukk when Tchalla was in Civil War putting in WORK. Then they scaled it way back for his feature film :gucci:

2. Wakanda was portrayed on some National Geographic tourist in Africa vibes.:francis:. I was EXTREMELY disappointed by its portrayal. Wakanda is supposed to be the most technologically advanced country on the PLANET inhabited by geniuses. Outside of shuri lab we saw none of that :martin:

3. Michael B Jordan handed in the WORST performance of his career and somehow became a superstar off it :mindblown:. His shyt is laughably bad especially when he threatens the lady in the garden and tells her to burn it all. I was :dwillhuh: At the weak delivery in such an intense scene. He is a better actor than he came off here....guess he dumbed down to double his dollars or something. He just wasn't believable in the role for me, should have came across more menacingly and imposing. He relied on his physique to do that for him :unimpressed:

4. This movie had bad pacing imo, I felt that it was over too fast and scenes were ending right as they were getting good sometimes.

5. The fake African accents were not a good look at all, forest Whitaker I'm looking at you :usure:.

6. Daniel Kaluuya character is a bytch made clown for that shyt he pulled. Turned on his day one for a dude he doesn't know at all :camby:. Destroy your country bc you're a male groupie brehs:pacspit:

The film suffered since they did a semi-origin movie after he made such an incredible debut elsewhere. It works in the context of the world they were building though

The best part about the movie was M'Baku :banderas: , dude made me a major fan after his performance.

personally, i think because bp was hyped up as though it were some sort of movement. i get the excitement behind a major black superhero on the big screen, but there was so much bandwagoning happening behind it that felt artificial as fukk, and when things like that happen, theres bound to be pushback of sorts in the opposite direction. like when ghostbusters afterlife came out, there werer people trashing it and supporting the 2016 version for a variety of reasons, one of which was that "at least it tried something new". i knew shyt was gonna get bad one day for bp when i saw that ass deray asking people on social media to tell him about the character instead of him picking up a damn comic so he could go to the premier and look like an absolute clown
This I sort of agree with.

People were elevating it above and beyond before they even seen it more for what it represented to them than the movie itself.

The stoop with dat dope fanny padding
First, no diss to @Take It In Blood who made me think of this and a reply by someone else, since you were talking about action scenes, and it was clearly not a hot take, it was an opinion.

But I've heard this a lot in the last year, on the ringerverse podcast Van Lathan stands on this square and I just don't fukkin get it.

How is that movie overrated? It was entertaining, beginning to end...was iconic in both acting performances and what it represented. Had a GOAT villian with bulletproof motives, a legit hero and a heroes journey, 5 star cast, and a good ending. The only reasonable complaint is the sus CGI on the bridge. Other than that it's an absolute classic.

Help me understand how we're now putting Ironman or age of Ultron and shyt above black panther?? It's truly some contrarian shyt to me.

it’s just not tier one like you think

Chadwick Boseman is way too good of an actor to play black panther...if you know what I mean

these superhero roles are really restraining

they are perfect for mid actors like Chris Evans, Michael B Jordan or Robert Downey Jr
