It IS coordinated

I'm 90% sure OP is part of Transportation Alternatives simply based on the language he uses and the things he highlights

Ol boy knew exactly what I was talking about with that Parkside accident too

Cyclists in NYC routinely ride recklessly and do reckless things

- Riding with no helmet
- Riding while on the phone/facetiming
- Riding with their PET on the front of the Citibike
- Salmoning (Riding the wrong way)
- Zig zagging through traffic

And that's all on streets that HAVE BIKE LANES

I challenge @bnew to stand on 6th Avenue or around Broadway in Flatiron/Chelsea ( :dame: ) and film for about 90 minutes and watch the fukkery that occurs.

We ain't even get into the unlicensed mopeds zipping around this city, which has increased post pandemic
post some data to back up your claims.

I read the news so I was already aware about that accident.

riding with a pet isn't wrong if they are strapped in securely.

I ride the "wrong" way because I don't want to get doored or hit from behind. no need to ride the "wrong" way when a bike lane is available. I avoid traffic heavy streets even if the less crowded streets are out of my way. I find that when I ride in the opposite direction along sidewalks or parked cars other oncoming vehicles see me and scooch over to avoid hitting me, not even needing to leave the lane.

I won't ever defend mopeds or any speed obsessed riders of any kind.

The year 3030
Because I'm getting frustrated with some of the replies my brother. I didn't post to spark an argument, just trying to show a different way. And I apparently went way over my buddy Dora's head, I'm emphasizing biking, not ubering
I get it...but it's not feasible, not in the bay anyway.

Public Trans + Bike/walk really only works if you going from BART to SF/SJ/Oakland

other cities...not so much.

Look :snoop:

I do it. Been doing it for damn near 10 years now. I ride as bike my primary transport. I take advantage of deals. Rental cars from time to time. The money and stress I've saved is unreal. If it's not for you, that's your prerogative. Enjoy your commute/gas/insurance/repair work. There are alternatives
there are alternatives, but it's not necessarily cheaper, realistic for most (a mom who has to drop kids at school, get to work, pick them up from school and hit the grocery store before taking them to soccer practice aint doing this on a bike or bus :heh:), or dependable and not without its own downfalls.

best believe, i'm not anti alternatives, i am anti-people who try to or act like people shouldn't be using cars presently and that new construction shouldn't accommodate cars (you should see the bay area reddit flip out over any new apartment building that also has a parking lot), we are not in a place where the majority of people can bush their cars

I damn near need to throw the snoop sign up again lol. The bay area? Y'all got too many hills and cold weather to bike like I do. I live in Florida. I'm not really speaking on environments like yours, it's two different worlds

The Chi (South Side)
while I have a car, I am lucky enough to live in an area where I could easily survive without one. 4 grocery stores within walking distance. multiple bus lines within 2 blocks in each direction and I have 24/7 train service within a 3 block walk. plus I have 2 bicycles.

last week, I flew down to dallas, and it's about 8 miles from my house to the airport. I was gonna take an uber, but they wanted $60 for that ride, so I ended up shelling out $2.50 for a train ride to the airport which only cost me an extra 20 minutes time, which was a fair exchange for the $57 I saved.

Dora don't u live in the bay? Check my post above, Florida is like living in a different country compared to where u r. There prob is an efficient way to maneuver out there, but I wouldn't be the person to put u up on it. I'm speaking on my enviroment

i feel you, when i lived car free, i was in DC. something that made sense if you lived in DC proper. but out here, it only works in SF and select neighborhoods in Oakland

A major problem (as exhibited in this very thread) is that:

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IN THE US IS LOOKED DOWN UPON.

Hopefully with more access and efficiency those views will change.
public anything is looked down upon. Americans are stupid. We have a housing crisis partly because we haven't built public housing since the 70s, and the ones we do have get no investment except in more police.

We have an emissions problem because we do not invest in public transportation, but instead make lanes wider which has proven not to stop slow traffic.

We are just a nation that is fighting to do the wrong things at the worst times.

When you hold their bullshyt under the microscope, you realize all it is is neoliberal garbage designed to sell neighborhoods and entire cities to corporate America in any way possible, from AirBNBs to Uber/Lyft.

I've lived in NYC my whole life

Traffic did NOT get as bad as it was until Uber and Lyft were allowed to operate here and add over 100K additional vehicles to the road around 2012
snippet:
The greener behavior of New Yorkers shows up in much lower rates of car ownership. New Yorkers own fewer than a third as many cars per capita as the average U.S. urban resident (about 23 per 100 residents compared to about 77 per 100 in most urban areas). If New Yorkers drove as much as the average American, the city would have 4.5 million more cars. Just storing the additional vehicles would require a parking lot the size of Manhattan—about 25 square miles.

we need transportation alternatives if you want to be able to continue driving and parking care-free.:sas2:

Explain why public transport is nonsense?
never said it's nonsense

I said your lobbying that everyone should leave their cars and ride a bus/train is nonsense. The people that take public transport will take public transport.

If we're talking about pollution then we change our cars to EVs, other than that nobody should be obligated to give up their cars and ride on public transport.
