This shyt is :russ: but at the same time it does make me wonder if Parasite could have made it all this way if Weinstein still had the power he held in Hollywood before.:jbhmm:

Another underrated aspect is these wins have solidified NEON's power grab in Hollywood. They are catching up to A24 fast when it comes to the dominant position in independent cinema distribution and they are willing to spend big bucks to get there.

Oh definitely. The Master Class he held here was full of fukkery answers like that. They showed a clip show of all the scenes in his movies taking place in basements, dark corners and tunnels and once it ended he just chuckled and said 'I like basements.' :troll:
I’m kinda interested to know what else Harvey interfered or requested in Snowpiercer

Dances With Wolves is actually pretty dope though
It is. It just gets dumped on now because so many have copied it and because it beat goodfellas. It’s like forest gump and pulp fiction. Gump isn’t a bad movie even though I disagree with a lot it has to say lol but it’s not bad at all and Tom hanks is incredible. Great achievement all the way around. But it beat pulp fiction which, in 2020, sounds ridiculous

Why didn’t “The Handmaiden” get the same type of love Parasite got. Arguably just as good.
The Handmaiden was also a big deal when it came out where I was at the time (not as big though). Both are great films, I like Parasite more, but I think the main reasons it got more love:

A. Parasite won the Palme d'Or which got it a ton of international recognition (The Handmaiden competed at Cannes also but lost to I, Daniel Blake)

B. Parasite is set in modern day and deals with themes that are extremely relateable and topical (I think The Handmaiden is more specific to Korean history)

C. The Handmaiden is about lesbian shyt, gay themes are just more controversial in general.

Also Park Chan-Wook (director of the Handmaiden) should have won the Palme d'Or way back at Cannes 04 for Oldboy

Because Korea didnt nominate it. The stupid international film rules only allow a country to elect 1 movie. They elected age of shadows

It's funny you guys mention this because I was gonna say something along the lines of "Park Chan-wook gotta be hot as fukk"....jokingly....but at the same time kinda not.

Dude kicked off America's interest in South Korean cinema damn near 20 years ago, but he was a bit too ahead of the curve. And yeah, honestly, "The Handmaiden" should've gotten the same attention as this movie.

"Age Of Shadows" was dope but I think "The Handmaiden" would've had a much better shot at the Oscars.

nah but seriously park and bong are friends and have a lot of respect for each other. they came up at the same time. memories of murder came out the same year as oldboy and those two films gave korean cinema a whole new level of recognition (2003 had a tale of two sisters too, dope year for korean cinema)

in this video bong mentions park borrowing his dvd and not giving it back :mjlol:

oldboy losing the palme to farenheit 9/11 was :francis: though

I know that's why I said jokingly.

But yeah. "Memories Of Murder" is a classic but it didn't cross over (not back then, anyway) like "Oldboy" did. Hell, I seen more indie/foreign movie sites talking about "JSA" and "Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance" than "Memories Of Murder" .

Countries are silly about this stuff. France didn't nominate portrait of a lady on fire which was getting all the buzz this year.

Has nothing to do with it being a les movie. Moonlight won 2 years ago

It should be noted that a few years ago both Park and Bong were on a (larger) government blacklist for artists designated 'critical of the administration'. It mostly dealt with blocking state funding to artists but it has been rumored that they also pressured selecting The Age Of Shadows over The Handmaiden. That blacklisting is also rumored to be the real reason Bong made Okja through Netflix.
