The movie was about a guy who’s career was going downward during the time of hippies and the Manson family. He was best friends with his stunt double who had his own shyt going on. It was a period piece. Everything doesn’t have to be political. The award I am referring to is Directing not Best Picture or Original Screenplay.Only problem is the movie didn’t say anything
Yup. Real shyt? I talk to one of my boys about movies on a serious level. The rest of them are just into lighter shyt. So we’ll talk avengers and bad boys for life and the obvious shyt but I’m not counting on them for in-depth discussion on flicks as a whole. Definitely not Korean flicks.
I think parasite is a tougher feat to pull from a directorial standpoint. That’s a lot of plates to spin in the air and make sure they all mix. The third act tone switch in once upon a time threw me off and felt like out of a completely different movie. But the tonal switches in parasite felt of a whole and didn’t feel out of place. It all had to fit and Bong made those pieces connect more than QT.The movie was about a guy who’s career was going downward during the time of hippies and the Manson family. Yup same with me. 6 or 7 cats. One I’ve known damn near my whole life so he’s the guy I can talk to about deeper shytI got 6 guys I've known for 30+ years that I grew up with.
A couple of them check for foreign movies I mention, but #1 it's only literally 1-2 of them and #2 it's only occasionally. Mind you, I've been talking about these types of movies for close to 20 years.
So "nobody I know is talking about this movie" means absolutely nothing.
Fred.
That’s why I said partial.I think parasite is a tougher feat to pull from a directorial standpoint. That’s a lot of plates to spin in the air and make sure they all mix. It’s not like the ending of inglorious basterds which felt completely organic and made so much sense. The movie told you this was going to happen or this was always the plan. Then it happened.
Crunk ain’t dead is the music video & song titleYo

The lack of an interesting plot caps that movie for me. I feel like the Hollywood angle was indulgent and did more for people in the industry than the viewers, but I wasn’t around for that period of time so I guess I’m not the target demogI don’t think that’s fair. The movie clearly had a lot on its mind re: old Hollywood giving way to new Hollywood, getting old and possibly outliving your usefulness, knowing when to throw in the towel or find your second wind, friendship, brotherhood, and commenting on the time Hollywood “lost its innocence” which is what Sharon’s tates death is referred to. The movie has a lot to say. Whether it all works for you is a different discussion
Oh yeah most def. QT did his thing. But he always does his thing even if it’s a movie I don’t like. What I don’t want to happen, and it probably will, is he gets the best director Oscar for his “last” movie because the talk will be it’s a career achievement trophy instead of a deserved one, regardless of the flicks quality. That’s why I said partial.
Movie's been on the front page of sites like Letterboxd for over a month and a half before Oscar night but "no ones talking about it"I can understand him saying no one he knows is talking about the movie; that’s cool. We’ve all got our social circles and not all of those social circles are the same. But there’s still a film culture and film social circles and Parasite’s buzz hasn’t stopped since May. Like loud as fukk buzz.
Yeah I think your last point is what it is. I wasn’t around then lol but I can appreciate it. But I’m sure someone who was around during that time, even if they’re not from Hollywood, can identify with it. That’s QT talking about his childhood and anyone his age can probably latch on to that even a littleThe lack of an interesting plot caps that movie for me. Pretty much like Martin Scorsese getting Oscar for Best Directing on The Departed. My favorite film from him is by far Casino.Oh yeah most def. QT did his thing. its crazy that he lost best director for Goodfellas to Kevin Costner for Dances with Wolves, and for Raging Bull to Robert Redford for Ordinary PeoplePretty much like Martin Scorsese getting Oscar for Best Directing on The Departed. My favorite film from him is by far Casino.
I dont understand why people use that relevancy shyt when it comes to the Oscars...they're held to a higher standard than that (and other award shows). I know bro was a Joker stan, but if it all came to relevance, Adam Driver woulda snatched Joaquin Phoenix's awardI can understand him saying no one he knows is talking about the movie; that’s cool.
