Damn last nights victory hits a bit different. I've been watching following Korean movies/dramas for like 10 years now. I've seen every actor in this movie(outside of the poor mom) in multiple other roles. A lot of the actors view American cinema with more reverence than American actors do to keep it a bean so they likely couldn't even fathom ever attending the Oscar's and winning. It's like watching two worlds merge for me.

I know that's why I said jokingly.

But yeah. "Memories Of Murder" is a classic but it didn't cross over (not back then, anyway) like "Oldboy" did. Hell, I seen more indie/foreign movie sites talking about "JSA" and "Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance" than "Memories Of Murder" .

the guy who i think might be really peeved is lee chang dong. i think hes been around longer than bong and park and his films never crossed over. then he made Burning, which deals with similar themes to Parasite, a year before Parasite :mjlol:

Lee Chang-dong's films veer more towards pure arthouse though. The same goes for Kim Ki-duk who made the classic Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... & Spring in 2003 (as said, probably the breakout year for Korean cinema) but never quite crossed over either, not even with his most mainstream film Pieta, his own take on the revenge thriller that won the Golden Lion in Venice in 2012.

Felt like the whole time I kept waiting for something to click. Old time Hollywood was charming, and Tarentino did a great job of immersing the audience in that world but the pacing could've used more work. I get that the lack of story was intentional as a lot of these Once Upon a Time films are slow and meandering but it just didn't work for me.
its hard to pull off a movie thats 3 hours long and accomplishes nothing unless you're a sharon tate fan, I think QT gave it an honest effort though

as much as i didnt care for OUATIH i will say this.

tarantino has clearly proven over the years he knows how to make an engaging movie. i think here he definitely made that movie exactly as he wanted to above all else, which i cant knock
