Nobody I know is talking about it either, at the end of the day it's still a movie in Korean. If we're going solely off social circles then we'd only discuss blockbusters.

I've been the one guy promoting foreign movies among my friends since the early 00's. It is what it is. But all that other shyt about the media is 100% nonsense.

Fred.
Parasite was the first foreign movie I took my friends to, one was apprehensive about reading subtitles but it ended up being our favorite movie of the year.

It's made $35 million box office here in the States ($165 worldwide) which is honestly more than most independent films, like Moonlight for example.

35 mil is a shyt ton for a foreign language movie in the US. the only others i know that did that well are martial arts or action movies like crouching tiger, or the passion of the christ (which is still an American production). For a dialogue-driven movie with subtitles to do that is unbelievable

The lack of an interesting plot caps that movie for me. I feel like the Hollywood angle was indulgent and did more for people in the industry than the viewers, but I wasn’t around for that period of time so I guess I’m not the target demog
Felt like the whole time I kept waiting for something to click. Old time Hollywood was charming, and Tarentino did a great job of immersing the audience in that world but the pacing could've used more work. I get that the lack of story was intentional as a lot of these Once Upon a Time films are slow and meandering but it just didn't work for me.

Moonlight is the home team and all, I’m from Miami but it was grossly overrated and I watched once and have no desire to ever see it again. As a breh, I liked La La Land better but that’s me.

Word, Parasite actually passed Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon for highest grossing Asian film here in the Netherlands like a week ago.

I originally thought the pacing was a bit slow but in a recent rewatch the movie flowed along nicely. I think most of his movies benefit from repeat viewings.

This shyt is :russ: but at the same time it does make me wonder if Parasite could have made it all this way if Weinstein still had the power he held in Hollywood before.:jbhmm:

Another underrated aspect is these wins have solidified NEON's power grab in Hollywood. They are catching up to A24 fast when it comes to the dominant position in independent cinema distribution and they are willing to spend big bucks to get there.

I can totally see bong saying “it was a fukking lie.” :russ:
Oh definitely. The Master Class he held here was full of fukkery answers like that. They showed a clip show of all the scenes in his movies taking place in basements, dark corners and tunnels and once it ended he just chuckled and said 'I like basements.' :troll:
