Here's a comment I read from Huffington Post,
I have known about this feature on BMW cars since 1996. My friend had a 1996 BMW 3-series sedan, similar to the one in this incident. Once the doors are locked via the remove key fob, it is IMPOSSIBLE to open to doors from inside or outside. Does it deter thieves? I think not. Many BMWs are simply towed away on flatbeds by thieves.
Ever since 1996, I've been saying that some unlucky BMW owner(or passenger) would be locked inside and suffer the consequences.
It is very hard to break car windows glass. I'm a very strong person and I've tried it once in a salvage yard. The only way to break the glass is with a solid object, such as a hammer, brick, steering wheel lock(The Club, for example), or even a baseball bat.
By the time the young girl realized that she was trapped, she was probably already weak from the heat exhaustion, with little strength to do anything.
BMW and Mercedes horns do NOT work unless the key is inserted and turned to "on" position. To this day, I still fail to see the point
BMW shares partial blame for this. I hope a good lawyer will help the family sue BMW. Hopefully, this will eventually lead BMW to remove this stupid lock feature.(if they haven't already done so)
This too. In what school do they allow you to walk in late because your class doesn't start till later They'll usually have you in study hall or something. Why would she even volunteer to sit in the car for an hour if it was hot as hell in the first place?
She didn't have the key, obviously if she did, there would be no story here...I would have been blasting some bass heavy ghetto shyt on max volume, some nosey cac would have found me in 3 minutes tops
Nope, no phone, food or water was in the car...a teenager with no cell phone?
