He says it in the movie "I'm the only human who can do it" and Qui-Gon kind of confirms it telling his mom he must have Jedi reflexes if he's podracing.
Also Anakin had a history of racing ( and crashing, he never actually finished a race before Episode I). So he has some experience leading up to that race.
