CEO's (any ceo worth their salt) really just don't do this. Even in the cases where they have another position or job lined up, they almost always stay until their replacement is finalized and then they leave after ushering in the new CEO and making sure everyone including consumers and employees are good.
In almost all cases when someone kinda of suddenly quits, retires or gets let's go when everything appears to be good, it usually means there was some problems behind the scene.
I feel like Jim might have been spending or had plans to spend more than Sony could possibly hope to recoup in the foreseeable future, and I think MS is getting a bit to comfortable in Japan for Sonys liking.
On top of the GAAS and VR gamble.

Most of the people on here that claimed they wanted him gone or had such contention with him weren't even playstation fans like that. Most playstation fans on here didn't give a fukk about him one way or the other and have expressed just as much in regards to his retirement.
