He's right though. I don't know why nikkas act like it's unfathomable that Aaliyah could have fallen off when Brandy and Monica were waaaay bigger than Aaliyah at the time and they both fell off.
They praise Aaliyah like she was a superstar yet act like Brandy never even existed when Brandy's career absolutely shyts on Aaliyah's. That death boost is real.
T-Pain didn't say half of what people are taking from his comments though. He didn't say Aaliyah was "mediocre", "couldn't sing", "wasn't that attractive" etc. When you listen and look at what he said and the context of it all, it's basically: "People act like Aaliyah was untouchable and those same people would think differently if she were alive today". As usual, people have taken something and twisted it to fit their own agenda. All of the negative comments about her looks and talent are uncalled for. Not necessarily directed at you, but that's what I see happening in this thread.
In regard to Brandy, people don't act like Brandy and Monica didn't exist. You had Brandy and Monica selling more albums, but when you're on a Hip Hop forum, of course Aaliyah is going to be discussed to a greater degree. Her sound and look appealed more to a Hip Hop audience than Brandy and Monica. Yeah, they had songs that had a Hip Hop sound, but Aaliyah's whole albums were like that for the most part. Her death has little to do with it. Their sophomore albums really drew the lines, because One In A Million had a harder sound than Never Say Never and The Boy Is Mine.
