How many dead really get praised in hiphop though:patrice:?Its really just Pac,then you got Biggie fans overdoing it to keep up with Pac....but overall nobody who died really gets praised like that, you probably got Mac Dre in a distant 3rd....the rest get forgotten like the rest:mjcry:...being that nobody living has passed Pacs catalogue I don't see the problem with the praise,if he retired instead of died he'd still be the goat based off discography:heh:...So I don't see how him falling off would've hurt him.

:ohhh:

exactly, how often do these people actually get talked about:mjcry:...People might not talk bad about them, but most people dont treat them like martyrs like folks pretend all dead people get treated like:wtb:...you could argue a few still dont get enough credit out of that list.

I remember when Aaliyah was alive and in her prime people said she was a product of the studio and couldn't sing live. It was only after she died that those sort of comments vanished and revisionist history took over. I think because she dropped a hot song, was about to be in a huge movie and died so young people place her among the R&B greats. She wasn't as big as Beyonce even back in 2001 and would not have slowed down Beyonce's trajectory one bit, that was destined. She does have a much more interesting catalog than Beyonce though and used her voice to better effect, in my opinion. But she never was a threat to her career. Now Rihanna might have had a bit of trouble though if Aaliyah hadn't fallen off by the time of her debut.

drake idolizes aliyah prolly cuz aliyah is a prime example of someone who cant rlly sing getting by simply by using a few notes throughoout her career and making catchy melodies and songs like a drake

but just like a drake...u can never compare aaliyah to an actual singer like a Beyonce

Aaliyah inspired all these r&B chicks who cant rlly sing ie: jhene aiko and sht

so ya Drake idolizing her doesnt surprise me one bit

this is where you lost me but I agreed before this post

And most of them were immortalized as something that they weren't and half the hip-hop fanbase didn't mess with them when they was alive. ODB, Dilla, Big L and Steez are the best examples of that.

I fukk with Aaliyah's music but yes many of her fans have overrated her impact if she had stayed alive. I think she would have stayed fairly relevant in the urban game for a while but I doubt she would have ever had the crossover appeal a Beyonce had (plus Blackground was a trash label) I do think some of these other chicks in the game (Ashanti, Ciara, etc) who had a few hot years might not have been as relevant if she had been around

First how in the hell are you going to "SAMPLE" Aaliyah and in the same breath say, "Oh she would of fell off". LOL, that makes no sense. You wouldn't be sampling her now if you didn't know her popularity and impact. Also Aaliyah was the 1st of the Young Girls to blow. Before Brady, Before Monica. LOL @ people mentioning Mya, Ciara or Jhene. None of them at any point were as popular as Aaliyah was. Yes they had hits and even sold records. But they weren't as popular as she was. Also before she died, her 3rd album came in at #2 on the charts and sold the most records in the 1st week of her career. To say she was falling off at that point is crazy especially with her about to start to both Matrix Sequels. Beyonce, Mya, Ciara, Jhene do not have a universally accepted Classic Album.

The only young girls from that era f*ck wiht Aaliyah is Brandy and Monica cause they produced Classic albums just like she did. Ashanti was right there but her whole image was clearly influenced by Aaliyah as well as Ciara. The bottom line "Would she fall off" is a hypothetical. All we can do is judge where to she was. To say Aaliyah was falling off before she died is lies. How you falling off with a #2 album and Matrix Sequels on Deck? (Both sequels went on to gross 1.1 Billion dollars). Also spare me with the "Oh she didn't write this or Timbaland produced this". Whitney Houston biggest hits were not written by her. Doesn't take nothing away from the artist she is. As for her voice not being "Strong"? not everyone has a Whitney or Mariah voice. It's not always about the voice but how your delivery is.

Janet Jackson doesn't have the strongest voice but her songmaking ability, influence and hits makes her overcome that. Aaliyah had the perfect quiet storm vocal. She was perfect for those ballads. The bottom line is T-Pain career been on life support since Jay bodied the Autotuned trend (He didn't kill but it did get played out fast after D.O.A) What hurt T Pain's argument most is he's sampling Aaliyah. If she wasn't going to be that great or fall off then why the hell are you sampling her? Also nobody has called Aaliyah the GOAT so it's not like her legacy has been "Elevated". People acknowledge she was killing the game before her death (1st artist in history to have a single go #1 on the charts off airplay). Think of every hit song Timbaland made for Missy, Nelly furtado and Justin after Aaliyah's passing. Even if half of those joints went to Aaliyah she could of very well had hits into the late 2000's.
