I give Heroes somewhat of a break because they wanted the show to be an anthology, but NBC said no. So they tried to awkwardly insert new cast members in season two while focusing on the old ones, plus the writers strike and having to find increasingly dumber ways to keep Sylar alive.
Had the show debuted today, in the era of American Horror Story/Fargo/True Detective, it would've worked a lot better. In a lot of ways, the show was ahead of its time.

As been said Dexter, Oz is a good mention too. Sons of Anarchy, not that it was that great to begin with but at least it was entertaining, in the end it just became a drag to watch.

To be fair, Bill Lawrence wanted that season to be a new show but ABC said no.
