Because it speaks to a larger issue. One that keeps on happening.
its a cultural issue in japan, until they face their own problems nobody is going to solve it for themselves

the anime situation explains perfectly whats going on there

The issue is an American one. It has nothing to do with Japan.
theres a lot of self hating in japan which is clearly visible in their anime

if they really wanted to they could of demanded the lead be asian but they didnt even bother

its a much wider issue then a movie or anime

What does that have to do with white washing in Hollywood?

The Live Action "Jungle Book" just made over 100 OW and they didn't washwash Mowgli did they? Meanwhile the live action whitewash "Pan" bombed badly. The spin isn't working anymore, people see right through it.

I'm not even defending Hollywood... but calling out JAPAN for their own bullshyt...to which you are defending. You know damn well they white wash themselves in anime and manga! Stop claiming they do not.

Again, scene from the 1995 Ghost in the Shell movie.

White dude is right behind the man in the front (black suit). One of Motoko's teammates (breh in blue jacket) asks her who those two people are.

She replies...

I don't know how many times this needs to be said. There are actual white people in the movie and even the anime. The white characters are referred to as white. In some cases, they are referred to by their nationality. The U.S. government, for example, plays a role in the plot of Ghost in the Shell across the board.

Motoko is not white. She's a Japanese national with a Japanese name who lives in Japan and passes off as Japanese. The whitewashing argument doesn't work in this case.

And what about the other pics I've posted? Does Motoko seem white to you?

Speaking of the pic above, here's a different scene after that, as well as the context:

gits3.jpg

Motoko and Batou (dude in the front) are part cyborg. That explains why their eyes are very distinct. Togusa (the dude in the back) is one of the few complete humans in the group. He looks completely normal. Little to no cybernetics or enhancements.

If the studio wanted to racebend someone, Batou would've been the obvious choice (which they did). But racebending Motoko was the wrong call to make. She is not white.

And it needs to be said again: there are actual white people in the movie and the show. They are referred to as white. Don't know why the detractors are completely ignoring that fact.

If the studio wanted to racebend someone, Batou would've been the obvious choice. They still did it anyway. But racebending Motoko was the wrong call to make. She is not white.

It's okay to frown towards all forms of white washing. Not just when it's done to blacks.

Same nikkas who are ignoring and defending this are the same ones who are gonna be :damn: :wtf: when they have Liam Hemsworth star in a live action Afro Samurai.
