Depends on how you look at it.

I understand when people say they won't take jobs at certain pay rates even though they're unemployed. Once you take an $80,000 job it makes it hard for you to later negotiate a big money job somewhere else. It's no different than people who work for $60-$80K a year, lose their jobs, are unemployed, but won't take $8 an hour Wal Mart jobs or whatever.

The professional leagues and especially the NBA is different though. Erik Spoelstra started off watching tape for the Heat. They were likely paying this mufukka with Sour Patch Kids and Subway vouchers. No way in the world for a tape person to get 80k a year. Now he is making 2.75 mill this year. Put in the work and things will look up.

Can't be an a$$hole all your life and then when things go wrong, bytch up and cry and start pleading for help. As I've said before, there is no reason why Charlie Batch deserves to be on an NFL roster but because he is a great locker room presence and isn't a prick, he's getting a million a year to fly across the country to chill. Besides, this story says that he made $24 million in his life. HE SHOULDN'T EVEN NEED TO WORK!

You can't be non social for your entire career and expect those ppl you were around to hire you for a position that requires you to be social. I remember it was a guy out here claiming to be his son. The guy's mother was white which is why I believe it. I think the Chief had to cough up alot of child support because dude lived good. I always wondered if he really was his son tho. I know the Chief probably was knocking down chics out here when he played for the dubs.

I sympathized with dude till I read the part where he said he'd only work 6 to 7 figure jobs. I understand he's got different expenses but surely an 80 k gig is better than no work ?

Yall kill me with this shyt......Bird, Kevin, and Danny would have been insulted with that job\salary too.......

In fairness to Chief he did watch Bird, McHale, Ainge and perennial bench warmers Rick Carlisle and M.L. Carr walk right into NBA coaching jobs so I can understand his entitled position to a certain point but refusing to take an 80K job which he probably could have set his own work hours does seem like a slap in the face.

I remember him getting that weed charge as he was one of the first well known players to be busted. I always thought he was caught in his car with a joint or something, didn't know he had the weed FedEx'd to his house. Smarten up Chief.

This is on point, however, why does he have to lessen his expectations when none of his counterparts had to?

You don't have to be sociable to coach.....

Sure you do. You have to be a good communicator. Doc Rivers went from the booth to the bench because he knew how to communicate. Being a coach also requires you to do interviews. Unless you're Bellichek you gotta be sociable. And even Belli talks to those in the organization.

lol at him thinking you can just make a phone for a coaching position in the NBA. Like there isn't 1000 other people more qualified and working to get a position. He is delusional.

THEY DONT GET IT...
THEYRE LOOKING AT IT FROM THEIR CURRENT STANDPOINTS IN LIFE...
ONCE YOU REACH A CERTAIN PAY GRADE,
80K A YEAR IS A SLAP IN THE FACE.

THE SAME WAY A nikka THAT USED TO MAKE 80K
ISNT GONNA TAKE A MINIMUM WAGE GIG IF HE WAS UNEMPLOYED.

CHIEF FROM THE OLD SCHOOL & HE PLAYED IN RACIST BOSTON...
IM GLAD TO HEAR HE KEPT HIS DISTANCE & DIDNT c00n IT UP.

So he'll rather starve? They were willing to give him the only job he's qualified for. They can't give him a coaching job because they know him. Dude won't be good at taking orders from Doc or any other coach. It would be like hiring Jim Brown as a running backs coach for the Browns. Sure he has knowledge but he's not willing to take orders from anybody he believes he knows more than. Assistant coaches do alot of grunt work. I don't see him being willing to do those things. Assistant coaches probably make around 80k or a little more than that if they aren't the head assistant.

Who said that Parish couldn't communicate. He's doing an interview right now isn't he?

Listen, a lot of professional athletes don't hang out with each other and that does not mean that they're anti social.

If you think Kareem and Chief, 2 of the all time GOATS don't have something beneficial to offer the game from a coaching standpoint then we can just agree to disagree....

Like many have said, dude seems to have some sense of entitlement. He's the first to admit that he didn't really fukk with his teammates like that, so why would they go out of your way to help you, then? Because you need money, thus need their help? Well get in line, you're not the only person who could use a six or seven figure salary right now, no one owes you shyt. If he was real serious about it, he'd start in the college ranks, D-League, or WNBA like Laimbeer and work his way up.

You can't be all "fukk the establishment, I'm doing my own thing" for 30 years, and then expect that same establishment to throw you a bone because you need help. shyt doesn't work like that.

And I get your guys point about $80K being a huge downgrade for him, but so the fukk what. If you're struggling to make ends meet, $80K is certainly better for nothing. It sounds like he has too much pride to ever humble himself like that, all the while maintaining the standard of living he's enjoyed for a minute now. After a few more years of being unemployed and broke, he'd wish he took that $80K salary when his house gets foreclosed and cars get repo'd.

I just think he needs to take some initiative and show people that he's committed. shyt, go to broadcasting school or something, I'm sure he could land a radio or local TV gig. It sounds like he's being lazy and just wants to play golf until the perfect opportunity is gift wrapped to him. He'll be waiting around forever.

My Pops Forever RIP
This is on point, however, why does he have to lessen his expectations when none of his counterparts had to?

It took McHale 10 years before he coached, and he only coached because the owner wanted him to clean up his own mess. The fact that he wanted to hire Chief on the staff just because he was Chief can let you some of why Mac got let go (and with Mac, if you had a job, you had a job for life).

Hell, a big reason as why McHale was even able to get a front office gig in the first place was because he's a Minnesota legend and he was in the booth with Kevin Harlan. Glen Taylor just saved the team from moving to New Orleans and felt it woulda been cool for PR to give him a job in the organization.

Chief is 59 years old. That's old even for an established coach who put in the work. He hasn't done anything there.
