The D (where it's so cold)
In fairness to Chief he did watch Bird, McHale, Ainge and perennial bench warmers Rick Carlisle and M.L. Carr walk right into NBA coaching jobs so I can understand his entitled position to a certain point but refusing to take an 80K job which he probably could have set his own work hours does seem like a slap in the face.

I remember him getting that weed charge as he was one of the first well known players to be busted. I always thought he was caught in his car with a joint or something, didn't know he had the weed FedEx'd to his house. Smarten up Chief.

The Chief seems bitter and seems to want the same kind of opportunities that Ainge Bird and Mchale have got. But it has to be a reason why no one has hired him and he needs to admit that he is probably a huge reason why he's not coaching in the NBA now. His situation isn't too different from Kareem's. You cant' be moody and aloof as a player, then expect to get a job after you retire just because you were once a great player.

I sympathized with dude till I read the part where he said he'd only work 6 to 7 figure jobs. I understand he's got different expenses but surely an 80 k gig is better than no work ?

Depends on how you look at it.

I understand when people say they won't take jobs at certain pay rates even though they're unemployed. Once you take an $80,000 job it makes it hard for you to later negotiate a big money job somewhere else. It's no different than people who work for $60-$80K a year, lose their jobs, are unemployed, but won't take $8 an hour Wal Mart jobs or whatever.

Why the fukk even bring up a marijuana bust from TWENTY years ago?
I dont get why they brought it up either, however I am pretty sure dude got arrested for marijuana after that.

He was coaching a ABA team here in Maryland in the late 90s and got pulled over and booked. I cannot find the article, but I remember this vividly because he was interviewed on a local radio show weeks before talking about coaching the ABA team.

Because he was one of the first 'good guys' to ever get busted for drugs. This wasn't like Micheal Ray Richardson or Len Bias who later we the public learned were on drugs (hard drugs at that) but they were unknowns and certainly not Celtic greats. Yeah, looking at the story from today's perspective it makes absolutely no sense to mention it as weed charges are like tattoos now but during the 90's it was something for a well known and liked athlete to get busted even if it was something harmless as weed, it's just the stigma associated with drugs. Remember the late 80's and the entirety of the 90's rallied hard on JUST SAY NO.

Still, how you turn down a $80,000 job in tha NBA, opposed to NOTHING in

tha NBA when you broke, selling ya championship rings.

:why:

I'm not talking about why it was a big deal THEN. I'm talking about why is it preventing him from getting a job TODAY? (Which it may not be, but he clearly believes it is, and the writer brought it up so :yeshrug:)

dude was a dikk to his teammates his entire career and now wants their help? :heh:

And he said repeatedly Bird, McHale, and Ainge aren't his friends, but he expects them to hook him up? :sadcam: I'm riding with Larry on this one....I think he is too proud to ask for help personally, and resorted going to the press to ask for a six figure job lol.
