It was amazing. @Dr. Narcisse can tell you that I have said Coogler is not a great filmmaker, and has not even produced a really great scene, yet. By a great scene, I mean one that the entire movie hinges on and converges into. A scene where the movie does not work without it. Think about Murph finally seeing her dad in the hospital in Interstellar.

That (Sammie’s talent breaking down the veil between eras) was legitimately a great scene. Moreover, if Christopher Nolan directed that same scene (because Nolan likes to have multiple timelines running concurrently)—people would think it was the greatest scene of all-times and shyt.

It’s a great scene.

There’s a place for this conversation, but not every time someone criticizes a Black-made film.
The scene is a fantastic idea, a lot of us just don’t like the execution. Nolan and Coogler have different styles so the comparison can’t even be made.

After seeing it again...that first half was just so damn great.

It really was like watching one of those Scorsese period piece films. He decided to lean into the grindhouse with the 2nd half and I started to notice it more. It does make you wonder if he kept just a totally southern gangsters film it might have been damn near flawless.

Still a really good film though.

And what narrative is that?

The discussion of profitability and what breakeven points comes up with all of these movies that are released in theaters and this one isn't the exception.
the way its written comes off snarky like what hasn't this movie thats only been out for 3 days haven't made its budget back yet.

Just seen this with family:

This is the 1st movie I seen in theaters in over 6 months cause wasn’t really shyt that came out I was geeked to see.
I really just saw this cause of family tho. This didn't look good from the trailer enough for me.

Overall I enjoyed this.
Glad I saw it and it was worth the theater price.
------------------------------------------

*The ending alone makes up for any shortfalls.

---------

The lil gripes I had with the movie:

1. The Sammy dude was annoying acting wise and that EXTREMELY STUPID as tone/lisp they told him to add to his voice is the stupidest shyt EVER. :mjlol: :dead:

2.
The scene when Sammy perfoms in the juke joint and then there is a montage of different musical presentations is beyond the stupidest shyt also. Why in the fukking fukk do you have a chick twerking? The narrator is talking about how certain people throughout history had a magical ability to reach the spiritual realm thru music like Sammy and the montage has just random ass shyt that doesn't even go with the direction of that narration. A chick twerking. Fuking Gang members and shyt.:scust: Then because you have 2 Asian characters on scene working in the club you have someone doing Kung Fu.:mjlol: That's damm near fukking racist.:dead: Coogler really do make some stupid ass decisions for symbolism that doesn’t even make sense. Even my family members that find some Tyler Perry shyt entertaining, brought that up when we left the theater.:mjlol:

3.
The dumb ass after the movie Marvel style after credit real end of movie shyt is ridiculous.:dead: I damm sure was getting up to leave and my sister was like "wait" to everybody and didn't say why. Then the shyt finally played.
It was important too and some people had already left. :francis: Stop making mafukkas have to Google to know if they can leave when the movie over or sit for an after credit scene and just have all that shyt at the end in the 1st place.
fukk Marvel for running that shyt into the ground especially when Marvel can't even make a good movie any more.

4. Another movie based in the South and not 1 person had anything close to a real Southern accent.:mjlol:

Despite all that tho.

Good movie.

Mehhhh there's nothing in that article that could be deemed as snarky or narrative based.

If it flops financially and the hitpieces start on whose to blame, then we can revisit the discussion and the narrative they're trying to put out there.

After letting this digest more this was a good film for the general public but i do feel there are levels to this film shyt. Id really like to see Donald Glover do a full length horror film too.

I think they coulda cut out the whole music montage looking back or at best have various black musicians from different time periods appear as if they were always in the room
Cut out the showstopping scene brehs!
