I'd let him walk.
Signing guys to huge deals cause "we already near the cap anyway" leads to Al Horford Tobias Harris deals where the team STILL regrets it
I rather let those borderline guys walk and have a year where the team is $10-15m under the cap in the near future where they can sign cheap guys like Christian Wood
instead of locking in on an overpay that has no impact on winning a chip

Not really. Who was gonna jump out the window and deal a ton for a guy who wants that kind of money? Besides, that doesn’t help Utah now. The way shyt is going he’s gonna be the most valuable free agent. Someone will pay him, but we’ll likely clown the team who does.
You shop him! That’s what offseason is for. Gm’s are never supposed to let their assets get to this point.

Golden State may have bit. That number one pick and Wiggins for starters.

ATL trying to make the playoffs. You trade Capela and Collins in a package for Gobert.

Celtics would love him. Don’t know what the package would be but they been looking for a defensive big for a while.

point is they knew this was coming. Him and Mitchell both wanted their contracts taken care of last season.

He's barely a max player let alone a supermax guy. Even though its Utah and not a free agent destination they still pay US green dollars. NBA roster spots are getting scarce. No they're not getting a Bron, AD, KD, Kawhi, Luka, etc. but they'll be alright- They have Donovan and most teams don't even have a player of his caliber. Gobert is so bad offensively that imo him and Drummond, who's about to be a free agent and probably wouldn't require the max, are on the same tier.. Hell playoff wise Gobert doesn't move the needle for the Jazz hardly at all. They could easily scoop up a Hassan Whiteside who can be had for $4-6 million per year next season. Also they could just develop Azubuike and go from there

Not good.

Atlanta says no. On top of that they drafted Okongwu, so I think they’re done looking for centers.

They had three firsts and couldn’t get anywhere. Besides, what they have now they can still offer later, and if Boston wants to max out 4 guys, that’s on them.

They're not gonna pay him that. Mainly because its not even really a tradable contract if they sign him. Gobert is great but Mitchell is the franchise player and Gobert can't be relied on fully in the playoffs against every team. Truth be told he probably folds and takes the max because it's a good chance nobody else is paying him that on the open market.
