I'd let him walk.
Signing guys to huge deals cause "we already near the cap anyway" leads to Al Horford Tobias Harris deals where the team STILL regrets it
I rather let those borderline guys walk and have a year where the team is $10-15m under the cap in the near future where they can sign cheap guys like Christian Wood
instead of locking in on an overpay that has no impact on winning a chip
Exactly. That never ever EVER works out. Always turns into an albatross.

And if those pieces dont come to fruition you're stuck with a worse squad and a likely pissed off/unimpressed donovan mitchell
With flexibility to improve. It's easier to move those smaller bad contracts. And it also gives you more chances to hit. Betting on 3 players vs a player who will only give you dividends on defense.
You sign Rudy to a supermax and you pretty much staying the same, and you have no ability to move his contract if he sucks. You dont even have enough money to try to improve in that case. Plus Donovan doesnt even like Rudy.

I think we’ve seen recently with Wall, CP3 & Westbrook that no contract is unmovable.

They should have addressed this last year. Now they gotta pay their part. Sign him. Trade him down the road if he doesn’t force his way out.

They signed Bogdanovic and Favors signed back with them; Clarkson re-upped. If they have money, some guys will sign. Mitchell is the key player and he's locked in for a while. It would be wasteful to max out Gobert, especially when he's not the guy who gets them over the hump.

I don't think you realize how good Gobert makes Utah's defense. Utahs defense is what allows Mitchell to do his thing. Go ask Devin Booker how it's going in Phoenix.

Yet that defense falls apart every postseason. So really, it's just them padding their defensive stats against shytty teams in the regular season and getting smoked against the really good teams in the playoffs.

In the past, they've played better with Favors on the floor instead of Gobert in the playoffs.

I mean as of they're gonna be set to have 13m in cap room next offseason, and that's before Mitchell's extension kicks in. Point is they're gonna have flexibility issues with the cap period going forward with the contracts theyve given out. Replacing Rudy is much easier said then done. Letting him walk would be flat out foolish, and they are unlikely to get equal value in a trade of the free agency market. :francis:

Supermax exists to help teams like the Jazz. Is he worth it in general? Nah. Is he worth it to them? :francis: Not like they're gonna get a big free agent. If he leaves they gotta hope they can replace him via drafting. At that rate they might as well start rebuilding again.

Just because you cant get Lebron in free agency doesnt mean you should over pay players not worth the money and fukk up ur cap...Gobert to me has no value at the supermax and that will be a regrettable contract....You cant tie that kinda money in a guy who cannot score, just my opinion...

Yes and great defense has gotten them to how many Conference finals again ??? Bottom line is you need scoring....you can still be a good defensive team without Gobert...
