its only a Coli thing. A lot of people dont rate Forrest Gump that highly.
It won the Best Picture award over Shawshank Redemption and Pulp Fiction.
Zemeckis won best director over Tarantino

What's the horrible message......? and as opposed to what exactly?
That if you're a good ole boy then you'll fall ass backwards into wealth and fame and achieve the american dream but if you go out and explore the counterculture, go off the beaten path and hang with black and brown people, and rebel against the system, the same system Forest embraced, then you'll die from AIDS. It was a way of saying that those of the baby boom generation who made it big did it by following the rules and those who didn't follow those rules and put up with the establishment weren't going to make it at all
