For sure my dude, the heyday of boxing is long gone, the best years were in the 70s and 80s, just like basketball was way better in the mid 80s-90s. But seriously, if Reggie Miller came out and said Kobe would have been just another player in the 90s, would you respect his opinion?
first...I dont know if I would compare Miller to Duran. I dont think Miller was as great a baller as Duran was a fighter. I would probably use an example more like Drexler. Average during Drexler's time was maybe Ron Harper or Hersey Hawkins or somebody. Kobe obviously wouldve been on a tier equal to Drexler (Jordan, Magic, Isiah, etc). So if Clyde said that it would be dumb. Duran saying average....would be placing FMJ on a tier below himself...and that would be dumb. Now if he meant that he would be right in the mix with he and the other tops at that time, just not above them...he would be correct.
IF FMJ was in that era then he wouldve been one of the top fighters but he would not reign undefeated for no 16 years. Plus...if you going hypothetically, SRL had already started the blueprint and SRL was naturally a bigger star than Floyd. Floyd needed ODLH to get to where he is at. SRL was the first 100 mil man and it was because he had much more charisma and flair than anyone then or after basically.
FMJ would not be average.....but the FMJ of today would not exist back then. He wouldnt be able to feast on a steady diet of slow Mexicans and manufactured pre-packaged titlists. Without the tomfukkery the governing bodies bring today he wouldnt be able to skirt good opposition and serious challenges nearly as often.
