Confused ASF here because I hated the witch but liked the Northman :dwillhuh:
Man someone in this thread said horror movie of the year but won’t watch again so I don’t get the reviews other than I can say I enjoyed it

If you seen one Nosferatu movie you seen them all, the new one is basically the same as all the others but it’s beautifully done

To me horror movie of the year and no I won’t watch it again. I said it because I didn’t care for the ending. It wasn’t fulfilling for me but I hear it it’s true to the tale so that’s what’s up. Everyone acted their ass off.

This was solid, although I wasn’t blown away by it. What sets Eggers’ films like ‘The Witch’ or ‘The Lighthouse’ apart for me is how much they don’t play by the book. This one comes across pretty straightforward in what it’s presenting. I miss that.

I do hope that fakkit Sam Levinson and Abel pay this a watch eventually and realize how much they wasted Lily. She kills it here. :pacspit:

I also like how Dafoe can play Weird Guy #11 at this point of his career and still find a way to get a good performance out of it. There’s a few scenes that came across as stagey though, and particularly with his character. Some narration that just was not needed, IMO.

I’m a sucker for a great atmosphere and this one nails that gothic tone. Probably the biggest thing that popped out to me, next to Lily’s performance. Was more spooked by the impending sense of dread that lurked throughout the film more-so than Orlok’s actions.

Was not expecting the Ned Flanders stache on Orlok.:pachaha:

His appearance and voice takes a while for me to adjust to, but I liked that the movie made his look distinct from his past iterations.

The OG shot of Orlok creepin’ up them stairs had me like

Just comes down to personal preference i guess. This doesn't follow the book and left out some of my favorite parts. Also when it comes to Eggers I expect a little more I guess but it's a basic story.

Wesley Morris review is funny

You really feel the gathering dread. But there are snags. Anybody trying to adapt even an adaptation of what, in Stoker’s telling, is ultimately a series of letters and diary entries, faces steep challenges in the character department. You’re stuck with all these Victorian normies, wallflowers. The actors playing them — including Aaron Taylor Johnson and Emma Corrin — drift around what ultimately is a costume drama that’s compelling only when it’s under assault.

This has always been true in every adaptation
Couldn’t put into words how I was feeling coming out of the screening. This sums it up really well. It’s far from a bad movie, I’m really glad we ended up getting it, but I do hope Eggers makes a return to a smaller scale in his next entry and tackles a new, original story.

Movie was alright, not better than the witch. Better than the north man.

I fukking hated Skarsgaard in Northman, he honestly kinda ruined the movie for me
:what:. Y'all are all over the place. The Witch and The Northman were both great films, but I put the Northman above the Witch, and I thought Skarsgard was the best part of that movie. I'll have to just see this myself lol
