your stars are but dust on my shoes
I respect this opinion

I’ve seen a lot of opinions saying the ending was anti-clamatic

When it’s the same ending from every other Nosferatu film :patrice:

I can’t wait to see it again in a venue that isn’t amc

Interesting.
I actually found the ending quite beautiful, and the final sequence was really well done.

this was super mid. breh it feels like literally every movie I've seen this Depp girl star in has been underwhelming at best. she aint it.. needs to do more supporting roles instead of being a lead. her head shaped like a traditional ass museum skull tho.. i see why they put her in horror movies.

other than that, how many of the same cliche ass jump scare are yall gonna put in the movie. I'm just trying to get to the next scene and then boom a mouth wide open loud ass jump scare that's played out af and doesn't even last long enough to be memorable. you gotta make those creative if ur gonna put so many in.

then for the first half im like... damn where tf nosferatu at.. whats all this other bullshyt about. just got old girl convulsing and being weird in the corner for 60mins.. definitely not for me. the ending was beautiful, and in general the movie is breathtaking visually.. but The First Omen is a much better retelling of a classic horror imo.

I've seen her in that hbo show the idol, and those two movies the wolf and yoga hosers... all mid. I've never seen her in a supporting role. I understand she's someone's daughter but it aint hitting for me.

I thought she was pretty incredible in the idol, especially considering how trash the script was. Let us not judge anyone except the director of yoga hosers

Those scenes were great, they just felt quick. The journey could've been longer

Personally a lot of the best scenes and shots went by too quickly. I had a bad feeling when the beautiful shot or her floating in front of the window with Nosferatu's shadow was like the very first one. No build up whatsoever, beautiful shot that just "happens" and is done with, when it could've been a sort of climax for some longer tense scene. For a shot that is used on the poster I was anticipating that moment, and boom it's out of the way as soon as the movie starts. And I have the same feeling with a lot of the more beautiful shots that are quick and sometimes seem to be there just to show the mastery of technique. And then you switch back to "regular" shots that almost feel like filler sometimes. Why he didn't do the whole movie with that blueish black and white that is used in the best shots I have no idea.

Can't lie, this is my second straight disappointment with Eggers, after The Northman. He seems to be now more about technique and less about the subtetlies of creating an atmosphere. Also Nosferatu looking more like en evolved zombie than a vampire didn't help. Neither did that very forced accent.

I REALLY enjoyed this. I think this might be my favorite Dracula film and definitely my favorite Eggers movie. Everything worked for me- the dialogue, pacing, cinematography, the freaking killings. It was all so brutal both physically and psychologically in a way I don’t think anyone has done before. I especially love this very demonic and folklore mythical take that really embraces just how devilish this creature is. The possession and plague in particular made the story feel fresh. 9/10 for me because I still need subtitles for Eggers 😆
This isn’t Dracula though :troll:

I wasn't crazy about this. AMC also fukked up. they started the movie 5 minutes early with NO trailers. I came in 8 min after showtime. and there were people that came 10-15 min after me. AMC usually has 22-28 min of previews.(plus the kidman and coca cola ads)

I saw another movie in a different theater later in the day and caught the 12 min i missed and then bounced.

it was beautiful to look at, though a bit dark at times like everything post 2016. i wasn't crazy about skarsgaards performance. depp was good, though i still wish Anya Taylor-Joy hadn't dropped out(for an apple TV+ movie no less).

so beautiful to look at. a bit gross. some sex but not sure i'll revisit it much. i prefer coppola's film to be honest.

That's wild. Over here the whole thing is 15min. Sometimes less.

It was great. Something I can and will watch again because the atmosphere and setting is so immersive.

If you're already a fan of Eggers style he's giving you what you want here. Honestly he could stand to be more ambitious and branch out a bit into other styles, but he is undeniably good at this stuff.

Count Robotnik one of the best vampires I've seen in a movie.
