It’s parenting. Nothing else.

My child is in AP everything.
What's funny this 90% of kids in AP classes are there because of preparation. It's not this sea of gifted geniuses like everyone assumes, it's just parents getting a headstart on the schools

When I was in the hood we didn't have AP classes so I'd be in 2nd grade bored because my mama had me doing 4-5th grade work at home. When I was older and in better areas then cacs was pulling me out of class for assessments because I was so "gifted". Preparation is the cheat code. Even funnier is my mama wasn't even strict like that. I got into plenty of bullshyt but you weren't about to be illiterate in my mama's presence:mjlol::wow:

Thats what also makes these stats so embarrassing because to be honest the entire American school curriculum up to about 9th grade could easily be taught to 5th graders so Americans generally are already dumb. That makes us look even worse:snoop:

Best of luck to your kid's cousin breh

We gotta find a way to filter the students better to put those who want to learn together and those that want to disrupt can be put in a place that won't have any effect with the option of reintegration if they prove themselves

Don't even know what to say anymore. I've talked about it, done research on it in real life in my area, and attempted to change things.

This is not a new problem and with the new teachers that we have now and inactive parents. Its over.

Black people are gonna lose.

The concept of culture is lost. Not passing down any artifacts or lessons from the past to conquer the current climate.

Add in the suicide rates of young black kids and the reason for it 56% of the time. Its over.
If you add the demographic evolution of black people... :francis:

So no answer i see:bryan:

@Da King wasn't talking about school though. His original comment was about the slang they use

The point of communication is to exchange information. As long as the speakers know what's being said, that's all that matters. It's not any difference between using slang or a regional dialect. Which goes back to my question, what is real English?

Language is constantly evolving. Shakespeare used incorrect Grammer and made up words. Only difference between him and hip hop is he's a dead cac :beli:

I'm not saying kids should use slang in their career or some shyt, but just shooting the shyt amongst themselves is more than fine :skip:
you just arguing for the sake of arguing.

There's no problem with slang the issue is when people can't switch with their environment. Don't know when to use official written language or speak it vs when to use slang. Not know grammar. What it is isn't relevant to how it will affect your life. Yes it evolves but not that fast. Not enough that it's useless for them to learn "real" English now. Again slang is fine but it can't be the only way you communicate. If it is then there's a problem.

Came in expecting South Carolina to be scraping the bottom.

No surprise NJ cookin (average position of the 4 major groups). :win:

Honestly this graph is a great presentation of our general economic position.

When Dr. Claud Anderson said in 1995 blacks as a whole are on course to become permanent underclass and times running out… well… time might be up :yeshrug:

Best you can do is position you and your immediate group for success. Everyone isn’t gonna make it.

Nikka, I wasn't even talking to you :beli:

You started the convo with me :mjlol:

But yeah, we're in agreement on slang. I would also agree that there's a bunch of kids who don't know how to switch. But that wasn't specified by the post I was originally responding to. He was just speaking in general

But you still haven't defined what "real English is". I'm not being pedantic, but trying to prove the point that the way black people talk is stigmatized against :manny:

I got your actual point. But it's not relevant to how language affects people. Real English is the current accepted official version. The way anyone talks is real but it's not official thus not the real accepted version. Arguing semantics won't change anything about educational expectations. You are not wrong that's not my point.

We need a uniform & no phone policy for our young brothers and sisters. Too many of our kids are worried about the wrong things. Less focus needs to be on material things, and more focus needs to be on the books.

Those problems existed for black kids LONG BEFORE smartphones and social media :snoop:
