I'm sure younger people can pick up on your thoughts that higher education is useless.

Interesting because my parents pushed college from elementary school. It wasn't something negotiable. I needed to focus on school to get into college in order to get a decent job. They both were graduates and I should be as well. Same with most of my peers.

Just an observation.
I brought up college because it's being used as a deflection, however I may feel about it

The topic is basic reading and math levels. And there is no excuse for black kids being basically illiterate

My point is... if there are no general long term educationl goals beyond secondary school, and more complex math/reading skills are not used as an adult, how can we expect parents to teach their children? How can parents school their kids if they themselves haven't done the minimum work in a decade+

I'm the main person that helps my 13yo niece with her homework. I honestly don't think either of her parents could do her math or adequately revise her language arts / Spanish, because 1. They didn't care for school to begin with, 2. Their impatient and 3. It's been so long since they had to attempt it. Not to mention we're in the era of "new math" and harsher critique of essays due to ai being to easy to access. Often times i need to go back to the beginning of the math unit and see how to solve the problem because I solved it "the old way".

I think as a group we do ourselves a disservice by not pushing higher ed from day1. Especially to boys. I did grow up deep in the burbs. College and finishing HS with an AP course and either a calculus or advanced accounting was the norm. 95%+ graduated. This included the other black and brown kids.

We can't control all our kids actions but we need to consider making certain goals and parent involvement the norm.

who do you think is responsible for teaching a child how and why to take their education seriously?

You negroes think that kids are just supposed to pop out of the womb is fully formed adults.

No motherfukker, you have to nurture, teach and discipline your child

beating and stressing them makes it harder for them to learn :camby:

I hear what a lot are saying about the parenting issues, cultural issues, etc. but we also need to consider what is being taught.

we’re centuries removed from slavery, decades from jim crow, living in an era where all manner of information that would assist with mathematical and linguistic competency is readily accessible.

my parents made sure my siblings and i had computers and bookcases filled with books. they strictly monitored our studies, making sure we completed our homework on time, reviewing it for errors, identifying what was wrong and instructing us on how to correct it.

we were encouraged to read all kinds books and play computer games that were text heavy and filled with logic puzzles.

as children we were enrolled in soccer leagues. during the summer, we went to summer camps.

our parents made sure that we were raised with an appreciation of knowledge.

as i said, only so long you can blame racism for failures that are now self-inflicted.

all that and you r still a dundas :wow:

Cold part is: Parents can integrate their reading into their everyday activities if they really tried. Those games and shyt they play DO require some reading skill. Hell, turn on the CC on their favorite shows. Idk, that’s what I did.
:yeshrug:

…SOME of the things I did

middle class culcha capital :ehh::wow:

just discussing things with kids helps with their vocabulary.

it's not rocket science.

their parent are too busy either trying to live a second childhood, arguing about nonsense on social media or completely disinterested and unconcerned about the education of their children.

Stats like these reflect poorly on black parents more than even the child.

A lot of coli brehs need to gain some self awareness and recognize where they are failing their child or children
Coli black father check in. Post your kids reading scores.

Stop trying to be so inclusive to people that choose to stray from that we gotta stop trying to pull everyone along. You dont see well to do wytes trying to drag trailer park trash to the forefront. They leave them in the woods where they wanna be. We gotta start doing that to our outliers. They don't represent us anymore

100% agree
