Well, depending on the exercise, it does. I don't like the restrictive nature of the guide bars for squats. For other things like military press and bench press, I like that it lets you use more power for the press and less for balancing the barbell.Smith Machine has it's benefits
I shifted towards using that for higher reps, less taxing on my old man lower back
