This is what a high school friend is doing with her daughter. The girl is three now and smart as hell. My grandmother said the same thing about my mom. My grandfather read to her everyday. Did math with her too. So by the time she got to school it was a breeze for her.
I do the same with my daughter. She can read at 3 and can do basic addition. But as a parent you really have to put the work in, go to the library, find educational materials online and use learning phone apps and videos on youtube.

Edit: But all parents, especially single parents with multiple children, don't have the luxury of time and resources to put in all the work required to get their kids ahead (although there is a lot of free educational stuff you can give a child in 2019). Ultimately if we had a fair and equitable educational system it wouldn't be necessary to supplement. But the world is what it is.

You have to get your kids started early (don't have any of my own), but if I do I'm reading fo them when they are still in the womb.
They also say when a baby trys to talk to you it is good to pretend that you understand, this supposedly helps them learn to speak faster.
Then when they are old enough to read that is when I think you should begin planning there future as far as school and testing.

The schools in some of these Black and Brown communities will not prepare your kids for the top school. We have to teach them ourselves (if possible hire a tutor), if they have older siblings that can help that is good too.

I wonder how the proposed changes to the admissions will change that.

Went from k-12 in NYC public schools and honestly if your parents are not pushing you from a young age, most kids are not going to push themselves unless they're super smart. Most are average.

This is a tough one. If 74% of the students are Asian, the Black students probably 5% and the cacs like 20%..

At some point we have to confront the ugly truth that your kids education and future is not up to him/her alone..it's a complete family effort. From the Asians I knew, their parents expected not only A's, but head of the class. It's not enough to get an A..you have to actually beat your classmates and take 1st place, the Asians take that stuff seriously. Here they are practicing for future job prospects when youre competing with other people.
When they get home, no TV and shyt, it's homework and revision till you have mastered the days lessons.
We all know how Black kids are allowed to run amock by their parents and basically do as we please.
Asians aren't smarter than anyone else..their culture is competitive and mediocrity is frowned upon.
We could learn something from them.

There was this documentary about porn stars maybe in the early 2000's. One of them was Asia Carera and they went into her life growing up, and she was a fukking genius. But her parents were strict as hell though. They didn't play. In high school she came home with an A-. They were like A-? Dumb bytch you're grounded. :hhh:

Ever been to NYC you dumb fukks. Black and brown people in NYC are fukking geniuses. They not in because they are not being let in. PERIOD. My brother could code at 14. Ain't no one teach him that or push him to it. He just felt like it. NYC automatically educates people by proximity. Ask a 6th grade to take a test someone in the 11th grade would take in the south, and that 6th grader would dominate it. Education as a whole in NYC is significantly better. The problem is elite schools will be "elite" in their selection process.

They only looking for "target students" and unless they make all tests and acceptance criteria public (which they never will) we will have nikkas saying "blacks need to do better."

They kids who else are the kids supposed to look up to. Barack Obama? The same Obama who lectured young black men about not having 8 girls twerking, not wearing 8 chains and whatever the fukk else he was rambling about? :hhh:
Representation matters but it gotta be REAL. Not fake highlighted by politicians with some off brand agenda to push.
if Obama isn't a role model, who is?

Cause Michelle certainly is.

:hhh: At people saying it’s because black students don’t study. FOH, First of all not many black people even take that test. You have way more black kids taking the specialized catholic school test more than this test. Secondly because of zoning in the city some parents are fine letting their kids go to their zoning school which is just as good. Why would I send my kid to Stuveysant when Cardozo, Bayside, Townsend Harris (Better school than all of the three specialized schools) are right around the block?
