In the 70's/80's in Alaska, it was still very Wild West.

As the oil companies started to move into that territory in northern Alaska (the slope), which this season was based on, the workers brought culture with them from the lower 48. Among those was cocaine. That area was particularly saturated with cocaine, considering how remote/isolated it was. A lot of young native women from the area met those workers and got addicted, or were passed around.

Those young women (most underage) were trafficked through strip clubs and would end up in anchorage to entertain the industry big wigs and politicians. There was a party house near downtown anchorage that was notorious for this.

Some of the women went missing.

Those cases were covered up. Women that came out were silenced. The big wigs and politicians were eventually investigated (for lesser crimes) but got off pretty easy. The companies were renamed, the bad guys relocated.

A TD season set in 80's Alaska trying to tie all of this together would have been way more interesting. All of the things that made season 1 so intriguing, with the aspects of this season that were important.

Remember when the caribou jump off a fukking cliff to begin the show? This shyt was pointless from the opening scene.

Same essence/force that caused folks to walk out into the cold/sea

All of the fukkery happened at night/once the sun set for however long.

So they just accept the story about the Crackhead and Prior Sr and don't investigate Liz at all?
wouldn't the mining company want to find out who's killing their researchers instead of closing the case? Especially if their shyt got shut down anyways.
Wouldn't Danvers and them wanna go after the mining bytch since she was involved in covering up the Annie K case?
Convenient how the ice caves were walking distance to Tsalal and they didn't even piece that shyt together.

Nobody's gonna go investigate Tsalal with the broken glass and DNA everywhere
Nobody's gonna explain leavin the crackhead in the trunk when Prior dragged them both out to the ice? He just knew the story they were gonna go with?
They not gonna explain how super-Navarro got the upper-hand on Clark after getting her skull crushed by a commercial grade fire extinguisher?
Why didn't Danver's just shoot the glass? She already had her gun out.

What really frustrated me the most is that they had a good foundation for a really good True Detective story, but you let a 12 year old wrote it.


This was the most egregious missed lay up in HBO history since season 2 of TD.

Like dang... We don't even care. Can you make sense how home gurl sister leaves a voluntary mental facility at the dead of night without any safety precautions for her own well-being, goes out into ocean butt naked, and gets found in 45 minutes on Christmas.

That is what I've read yes. The showrunner apparently had this written/laid out and someone said fukk it just slap 'True Detective' on it like a bad paint job.

Absolute disappointment and a waste of Jodie Foster. Shameful abuse of S1 TD lore.

And I'm not a woman hater. I thoroughly enjoyed Mare.

'Mare of Easttown' is Waaaayy better than this. That's a better representation of 'True Detective' like show than this was..
