We are not in Alaska anymore. The upcoming fifth season of HBO‘s Emmy-winning crime anthology series True Detective — and the second with Issa Lopez as writer/showrunner — is moving along. It also is moving to another state, HBO’s Head of Drama Series and Film Francesca Orsi told Deadline during The White Lotus Season 3 premiere while discussing the network’s upcoming slate.

“It’s set in New York, in Jamaica Bay,” Orsi said. “Issa has a lot to say, not unlike she did with Night Country. It’s a different milieu but just as powerful.”

Filming on the new season is slated to begin in the coming months, with casting in preliminary stages.

In real life, there was a high profile murder that happened in Jamaica Bay. Till this day many people think the actual dude who was arrested for the murder wasn't the one who did it.
