the case was really bad, the incoming DA would have had it plead out or dropped it. This was filed under the Jackie Lacey office, a much more conservative prosecutor, whose successor, George Cascon is much more liberal, and hated in his own office, and even publicly rebuked by San Diego's DA, Summer Stephan.
The fact it's going to trial speaks to the cases strengths. Not weaknesses. Usually, a case pushed this far back is what the defense wants, loses priority, loses headlines, loses the support of the DA.
They really think the trial will last one week? This could be a mess of a trial, right before winter break, COVID cases up.
