They nominated it for Best Picture because of how great it was from an aesthetic standpoint, every other category is for rewarding the people who actually EXECUTED the task they were called on to do. It's not for who cut the check or who hired them... BREH. All the categories listed are a result of the sum of multiple different teams efforts. It's just unfortunate that all that great work was put into what was a boring ass movie. But it happens.
Denzel probably put on the best pure acting performance of the people mentioned. But he didn't move the needle any. Denzel is actually his own worst enemy when it comes to these things because even if he is in a lame movie, he puts forth a really good showing. Garfield didn't match Denzel purely on acting, but he certainly had to put more effort into his performance, with the singing, dancing, etc... That is going to weigh in his favor.
Every time he shows up in a movie, I always say to myself, "Todd, you piece of shyt...
"And all the women in Passing too.
They have to throw the stans a bone.
FREE GUY getting one is INFINITELY worse
