They love giving awards to black actors and actresses who play degrading roles

Reminds me of Eddie Murphy’s character in Bowfinger saying black actors win Oscars for playing slaves, white actors win Oscars for playing retarded characters, so he needs to play a retarded slave.

Denzel won his first Oscar for playing a slave in Glory a few years before giving Pacino his makeup/lifetime achievement Oscar in Scent of a Woman over a more deserving Denzel as Malcolm.

There was an anti-Spike Lee bias back then. I don't think that was the strongest thing, but it existed.

There was definitely some racism, but I think the biggest issue was Pacino not winning the Oscar in the 1970s for Serpico and the Godfather films and the Oscars having to make it up with him c00ning in Scent of a Woman.

I think Washington would have won for Malcolm X if not for Pacino because the performance was undeniable.

Spike Lee also thought it was a makeup award for Pacino. Spike got snubbed that year of a Best Director nomination.

I’ve never seen Harry and Tonto but everyone says Art Carney winning that year over Pacino for Godfather 2 is one of the worst Oscar travesties ever.

I think Pacino said he was relieved that he didn’t win because he was high out of his mind and wouldn’t have to give a speech.

I will never look at Denzel winning for his role in Training Day as something bad. Like have you seen the movie???? He kills that shyt wakes it up and kills it again, we had never seen that Denzel.
