Power of the Dog personally for me was some mid. Story did nothing for me even though the acting was great and the cinematography was beautiful.

I feel you. I thought it was “ok” for what it was but honestly it was more white people dealing with white people shyt. We’ve seen that story over and over and OVER all of our lives. I struggle to connect with white dramas more and more every year of my life.

But the “world” has anointed it as the top film of the year since it came out, and it hasn’t lost any momentum during the awards circuit, in fact its GAINED momentum as evidenced by Plemons (and to a lessor extent Dunst’s) nominations

Hell Dune did more for me than TPOTD. But I don’t make the rules:yeshrug: Campion will win Best Director (unless Spielberg gets a last minute surge or Branaugh pulls it off) and Dog will win Best Picture. Don’t Look Up MIGHT win Best Original Screenplay but Licorice Pizza seems to be the frontrunner there.

In any event i’m just here to root for Will Smith and Aunjanue Ellis

Yeah if any white people shyt deserves more love it's CODA. That film was great. Nevertheless, Dune would get my vote.

And yeah Will and Ellis for the win.

I was surprised that Marlee Matlin didn't get a Best Supporting nom for playing the mom in CODA.

Bruno is a banger for sure, but it's too tied to the plot of the movie, so an outside listener would be like wtf was that line about? They nominated the right song.
I heard Bruno before I saw the movie and It made me watch the film
I don’t even remember Doritos
I bet they lose to no time to die

I heard 'Being The Ricardos' was mediocre. I was going to eventually watch it but the early responses made me put it on the back burner. Also Netflix needs to promote 'Power of the dog' and 'Tick tick boom' better like they do their 'Red Notice's' an MD whatnot

No way, Lin is an academy darling at this point. They're gonna give it to him. Dos Oruguitas is the folk song in Spanish that was playing when Abuelo lost her husband. It sounds like something that was written a century ago, which is amazing because Lin wrote it for the movie last year. It's gonna win!

Denis Velleneuve was ROBBED of a Directing nomination. All of those noms for the movie and I guess it just directed itself:francis:
:unimpressed:
Is the director behind the skilled individuals behind the movie's sound, vfx and production design? The movie was shot really well, and there's a cinematography category for that

The actual story and how it was told was mostly meeeeh IMO, stans who knew the story before hand enjoyed it, but new viewers weren't really praising it like diehard stans.

Do you have any idea what a DIRECTOR does breh:gucci: its much more than yelling “ACTION!” And hoping for the best.

A DIRECTOR has to also be in charge of storyboarding. Where so you think the “skilled individuals behind VFX and sound design” get their initial instruction? Who do you think actually recruits the cinematographer and works with him setting up shots? Who do you think has to approve the final VFX designs? Who do you think has to approve the final placement of songs and score? Who do you think spends most of their time during pre-production putting all of this together?

Its the DIRECTOR.

One wrong choice and an epic, special effects heavy film can be dead on arrival. Denis Villeneuve is the anchor that made all the moving parts of that film come together. He deserved a Directing nom.
