Can someone explain how the end of apocalypse connects to this movie? They show the whole Essex corporation briefcase at the end of Apocalypse. Are they forshadwing the creation of Laura and X-24 based on the weapon X program?

I think they were gonna go with the Mr. Sinister villain at the end of Apocolypse for the next x-Men movie but Kinberg pulled an audible and decided to go another direction with Logan . That explanation sounds flimsy as hell IMO.
