Been a crazy week here dealing with the weather. I was finally able to see this.. Even though I knew the endgame, the movie was engaging.

The film made it seem O’Neil & Hampton were in their 30s, they were basically two young kids. It definitely would’ve changed the optics of the movie.

Lakeith did a good job of playing the paranoid role throughout the film. Only time he showed any emotion was when he asked Fred if he wanted a refill.

Overall a decent movie but I don’t think it’s something I would just sit and watch again.

Just heard on a podcast that O'neal was only 17 when this went down. I wish the movie did a better job of making note of how young both he and Hamoton were.

Exactly. 17 year old informant. That makes the movie completely different. They got the both of them seeming like 30 year old grown men.

I had no idea they were so young. Hollywood has to find a way to get younger people to play teenagers.

you are either a child star,
A teen playing a child
Or a 24 year old playing a 15 year old

why can’t they ever cast teenagers?

I think him being 17 explains his stupid decisions alit more. It doesn’t justify it but yea, he was too young to be expected to tell the cops to fukk off.

He probably actually thought he was doing the right thing, until he got older an realized he was used and made a bytch ass decision to help racist.

Oh well I still don’t feel sorry for him

That awful "Nicole" poster in TLR said that Hampton should have been played by Michael Jai White or Leon Robinson because they're American. :flabbynsick:

From what I've heard from friends in the business, part of it is that there are different labor laws when working with minors, so you dodge it whenever you can. And then it's just plain true that younger people have fewer acting skills. There aren't many jobs in the world that a trained man can't do better than a less-trained boy.

Watched about 60% of this yesterday (like the middle through the end). Enjoyed what I watched and will need to watch the full thing again.

One thing that really got me what how young these cats were doing what they were doing. I just couldn't see dudes of today trying to lead these same types of revolts. Dudes are waaaaayyy too comfortable in 2021.

I always wondered why the Feds were so hard up against the BPP until I read more about their Marxist/Socialist views etc.

Watched last night. I’ve seen multiple documentaries that cover the Black Panther Party - highly recommend checking “Vanguard of the Revolution” btw - but I feel like this script was cheesy many times. Seemed like the writers and director were trying to be too cute IMO (i.e. the scene when Fred’s team first walked into The Crown’s headquarters where like 300 dudes with rifles were lined up).

Daniel Kaluuya did an excellent job and deserves recognition for the performance...he had A LOT to recite in this film. But it also made it seem like every word that Fred Hampton uttered was poetic and super deep, no matter the context or what he was doing. Seemed like an old school theater play.

I wasn’t really diggin the love story either. I know that Deborah Johnson was a big part of the scene, especially at the time of his death, but just seemed a lil forced. I get it though.

It was a good film, and I’d recommend it mainly to educate people on what the BPP aimed to accomplish, and how dirty the FBI was in all of it.

Back then kids were pushed to be adults a lot sooner in life .
