First off, Great movie that was better written and acted than its getting credit for. It doesnt reinvent the wheel but its a firmly solid movie that executes on all fronts.

I dunno about yalll but I find myself pretty pissed at Rhapsody for her bird babble about "tHiS moViE iSnT aBoUt FrED & whITeWasHEs FrEdS POlItiCal StANCE"

Bulllshyt. They explicitly mentioned and focused on the more anti capitalist and Maoist views he had. Is the movie two hours of fukking Communist Theory? No. Is it a hugely focused on Hamptons POV and thought? Also No, but the outsider looking in perspective IMO worked to really demonstrate the forces at play to suppress the BPP.

Fred deserves a big screen biography, yes, but the creators wisely decided to focus on the sheer drama of COINTELPRO and the Cops dismantling Fred and the BPP from a agent within which is a more intriguing story than just Freds life.

Like others have said if we could have gotten some of Fred becoming what he was or more of the backstory on the cat who set him up it would have been even better. But i'm happy at the fact that we actually got a movie on a cat like Fred Hampton in any form when at one time that seemed like a long shot at best.

Thought this was a cool interview/conversation with the director. Touched on politics, the challenge of making a movie about black radical politics, what it means for black actor to have name recognition vs. a white actor having value. And he even talked some hip hop, including a wild idea for an MF Doom documentary:

Shaka King, Director Of 'Judas And The Black Messiah,' Talks Radical Politics, How To Make Black Movie Stars, And The Black Excellence Industrial Complex | Defector
Thats a brilliant doom idea :ohhh:

when they pan to her face and the gun shots go off, I felt that in my gut
I couldn't watch that part, had to turn my head away. It felt like "trauma porn" to me. Don't get me wrong, I get why the scene is here and I'm not saying it shouldn't be present, but I just couldn't inflict this on myself. Gaddamn.
