After Earth failed because it had two of the most toxic names in the industry at the time attached to it: M. Night Shamalayn and Jaden Smith

Nobody was going to give that movie a chance with those two attached.

After-earth's biggest crime was it just didn't look interesting.

Also, traditional sci-fi is a very hard sell to general audiences. A lot of sci-fi films tank at the box office when you think about it. We just had Ghost in the Shell, Valerian and Blade Runner bomb this year.

Michael B. Jordan proving alot of people wrong, he definitely looked like he belong in this film - definiely shed the baby face and took the heel role on well

DC needs to go ahead and make a Static movie, I don't care if they put Jaden Smith in it but it needs to be done

DC has always treated Static like crap. Even now they're pushing Black Lighting over him when it comes to media such as games and tv. It's ridiculous. They're sitting on a potential goldmine with characters such as Static and Vixen and they won't let them take the big stage.

Not to get on my John Stewart soap box again but T'Challa and Stewart are my 1a/1b favorite super heroes ever and John Stewart in particular easily could've been DC's equivalent to Black Panther if they ever cared enough to put the machine behind him the same way Dwayne McDuffie and Bruce Timm did 15 years ago with the Justice League cartoon.

In fact those two with that cartoon pretty much wrote the bible for a DCEU John Stewart in many the same ways Christopher Priest wrote the bible for Black Panther that we're now seeing on the big screen.

They made John powerful, absolved him from the destruction of planet xanshi that comic writers screwed him over with, made him a charismatic good looking guy who was knocking down hawkgirl and vixen... the latter of the two he chose over the white girl and had a black power couple that with some cultivation could've been comparable to BP/Storm.

Icon and green lantern would be a bigger draw. They need to do a young justice properly that leads into static shock and blue beetle though. I think DC is done if justice league flops.

But DC ain't give a fukk about John, and tried to do a buncha shady shyt including trying to force a writer to kill him off.. but the writer refused, went public and fan-backlash caused DC to fall back. So they gave John a bone and let him be the focus of a GLC on-going book with a writer that actually cared about him (Jensen).. and the book did well in sales, but DC scrapped that book prematurely... then they gave another writer (Bunn) a chance to write a GLC book and he once again made John the lead and had great characterization and great art and the book was doing ok.. but they scrapped it prematurely too.

So they settled on throwing John on a "Hal Jordan and the GLC" book (that's the actual title) whose on glorified monitor duty as "corps leader" sending Hal and 'em on all the missions John himself used to leading when Jensen and Bunn were writing the books.

@Ziggiy is this true breh! :patrice:

Yes

In the comics, when Klaw attacked Wakanda, he forced Kilmonger’s father to help him. T’Chaka killed his father and banished the family. Kilmonger grew up in Harlem and eventually became an intellect on T’Challa’s level, nursing a hatred for the Royal family for his family’s banishment.

And then what'shisface Geoff Johns wanted Hal to be the green latnern in his "mainstream"-prepped team he created with the reboot/relaunch of DC all those years ago. But he needed a token black on the team hence he went with Cyborg for MM, so he could keep Hal. But now with the luke-warm reaction to Cyborg in the DCEU (and now we barely ever hear about that last-minute movie they tried to throw in about him) we now have a GL movie turned into a GLC buddy cop with Hal and John because they realized how bad of look it would be if they rolled out with a Hal-centric GL film after Black Panther dropped with nothing but figgin Cyborg to show for it.

Now smart thing would've been to just make it be a John Stewart film and make him be the definitive GL in marketing (and then whether they kept Cyborg or replaced him with MM would've been whatever) but Johns is a stickler for Hal Jordan, and so here we are with DC pushing all this Hal-centric media images in merchandising and implied appearance in one of these JL movies, but now they gotta find a way to get John in the GL solo bc they know that's the character people want to see.
