this for most part, but another thing that might be hurting is this need for almost everything to be rated PG13, as if parents don't take kids to rated R films from time to time
also the quality of movies has hit rock bottom, i know movies like transformers makes a lot of money but it suks dik. now other companies are trying the same formula, lots of cgi and no plot worth a damn

not just the box office, its the entire economy that is slowing....been seeing articles in the weakness of the once mighty housing market and casinos around the country in financial distress. folks are watching their disposable income if they in fact have income.

Exactly the bad economy is affected all types of business. So you tell me. "OK, should I go and drop 20 bucks on a movie? or use that for Dinner and a beer and watch netflix". It's an easy choice.

Most economic indicators say that the economy is improving but the problem is that wages aren't going up but prices are. Movies continue to get more expensive while people are getting paid the same amount they were getting paid 20 years ago or even less, so with HDTVs being dirt cheap, a Netflix subscription or Amazon or Hulu can keep you entertained for a long time.

Maybe it's time Hollywood stopped relying on shytty remakes and get creative again.

I don't like to defend Hollywood but in their defense. Imagine you are shelling out 170 Million dollars. That's what "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Edge of Tomorrow" cost. "Turtles" Cost 125 Million. Mind you that's just raw production cost. That doesn't count marketing too which studios notoriously do not report those numbers. So if you are putting that much money down. Wouldn't you want a "SURE" thing? This is why we are getting another Star Wars film. Another Avengers Film. Another Mad Max film. Sequels and Reboots aren't going anywhere cause Hollywood always views them as a sure thing. Let's take a look at all the Big movies coming out for 2015:

Taken 3 - Sequel to successful Taken Series
Jupiter Ascending - Wachoski Bros original sci fi film.
Fifty Shades of Grey - Based on the best selling book, females are going to be all over this
Focus - Will Smith Romantic Com
Fast and Furious 7 - Sequel, Paul Walker's last performance
The Avengers 2 - Sequel
Max Max 4 - Sequel/Reboot
Tomorrowland - George Clooney original sci-fi film
San Andres - The Rock original disaster film
Jurassic World - The 4th Installed of Jurassic Park
Inside Out - Original new Pixar Movie
The Fantastic Four - Reboot
Ted 2 - Sequel
Terminator 5 - Sequel
Magic Mike XXL - Sequel
Minions - Despicable Me Spin Off
Ant-Man - Marvel Phase 3
Pointbreak - Remake of 90's crime film starting Keanu and Patrick Swayze
The Conjuering 2 - Sequel
Bond 24 - Sequel
Hunger games 4 - Sequel
Peanuts - Charlie Brown Reboot
Inferno - Sequel to Divinci Code and Angels and Demons
Kung Fu Panda 3 - Sequel
Mission Impossible 5 - Sequel
Star Wars VII - Sequel

Now that's all the BIG films coming out in 2015. Look how many sequels, remakes and reboots there are. I mean Magic Mike part 2? Really? The futher adventures of Stripper Mike. I know the 1st movie was a hit but it more like a standalone film.

I think we're in the transitional period between the failure of 3D

And the birth of full immersion VR or some sort of interactive perspective

Maybe merging games & movies

or

even crossovers the story starts as a movie continues as a game.. goes back to another movie

Something to involve the audience more in the story maybe the 4D
That universal does with rides like Harry Potter..

:lupe:

were u sober when you wrote this?

I expected another "new Hollywood" era like what happened in the late 1960s. It's going be an exciting time for young and upcoming filmmakers soon enough.

Exactly. The late 80's and 90's was suppose to be that "New" era Yes we got Spike Lee, David Fincher and Tarentino but Lucas, Spielberg still dominated into the 90's. I think a new era is coming too. Hopefully this opens it up for more Black, Asian, Latino and even Women filmmakers to come up. Hollywood also have a very weak amount of minority Writers doing screenplays. We need a Blockbuster black screenwriter or director making noise. (I know about Tyler but I want more diversity than dressing up in a wig)
