The Wrong Side of the Tracks
Mr. Fryer emphasizes that the work is not the definitive analysis of police shootings, and that more data would be needed to understand the country as a whole.

Guess some of y'all didn't actually read the OP.

I'll wait for further developments before commenting.

:sas2: Aaanyway now that were done with the death threats and c00n accusations and taste in adult 18+ entertainment

back to the matter at hand..the statistics in the study can easily be tested ...using data from the guardian and the DoJ
The Counted: people killed by police in the United States – interactive

TOTAL ARRESTS ..........................................................................8,730,665 WHITE 6,056,687 BLACK 2,427,683

TOTAL POLICE FATALITIES...................................................................... II46 WHITE 581 BLACK 306

TOTAL UNARMED FATALITIES................... ................................................229 WHITE 103 BLACK 79

TOTAL UNARMED GUNSHOT FATALITIES..................................................111 WHITE 47 BLACK 40

That last statistic (Black 40) is disturbing because it is higher than the trending 2:1 ratio the data had shown so far.. i suspect the factors for that include mental illness, poor police training and yes some racism undoubtedly

It seems the police are less likely to take chances around Black offenders in some cases

but out of 2.5 MILLION.......2,427,693 interactions 40 unfortunate shootings or 79 tragic deaths is a low number....That accusation of "genocide" just doesn't hold up

So, the study conducted didn't examine the data currently compiled by governmental organizations and by independent sources listing all of the victims of police shootings by name, with links to the available articles and case files, and I'm expected to believe this shyt is conclusive?
This would get a C or a D in my sociology methods class for college juniors.
Embarrassing.

U.S. police officers have shot and killed the exact same number of unarmed white people as they have unarmed black people: 50 each. But because the white population is approximately five times larger as the black population, that means unarmed black Americans were five times as likely as unarmed white Americans to be shot and killed by a police officer.

Police have shot and killed a young black man (ages 18 to 29) — such as Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. —175 times since January 2015; 24 of them were unarmed. Over that same period, police have shot and killed 172 young white men, 18 of whom were unarmed. Once again, while in raw numbers there were similar totals of white and black victims, blacks were killed at rates disproportionate to their percentage of the U.S. population. Of all of the unarmed people shot and killed by police in 2015, 40 percent of them were black men, even though black men make up just 6 percent of the nation’s population.

Aren’t more white people than black people killed by police? Yes, but no.

Story seems legit IMO...but then again i suspected as much given the police make like 14,000,000 arrests every year and the number of unarmed suspects killed is usually under 200 in total

so the odds of a deadly encounter with the police even filtering the data for a black male specifically are astronomically low...but that doesnt fit the story the liberals are pushing

Theyre like the kid doing a puzzle and when a piece doesnt fit they cut it instead of starting over
They have stats to pull out the likelihood of a cop planting a gun? We got video from breh in South Carolina.

Armed and unarmed are misleading statistics as well. What qualifies as being armed? Simply having a gun in a glove department is considered armed? Sterling and Castile were both, technically, armed. :ohhh:

The statistics should show how many of these armed male/female actually fired at an officer. Don't fall for the smoke and mirrors. It's from Harvard so it must be right and he's black so it's objectivity. :troll:

Youre making the same mistake the other guy did...Mindlessly transposing US population census data onto police activity...

Thats like taking data from every racehorse in the world to explain the kentucky derby..you have to focus your calculations on reality..like the horses in kentucky.

the census data doesnt account for things like age..most of the white population is old..old people have near zero risk of being killed or arrested..things like gender,,women have lower risks as well...distribution..people in rural areas and suburbs have low risk

There are more police interactions per person in poorer mostly Black neighbourhoods than in suburbs or rural areas for many reasons
-Higher crime rates
-The war on drugs
-Broken windows policing

So if a black person is 3-5 times more likely to actually encounter a cop than a white person then the stuff you copied and pasted is meaningless.....right?

Do understand how ratios work?

Do you...

you danced past the numbers i posted from 2 sources..the US dept of justice and a British newspaper... very simple calculations (you probably didnt even try)

to copy and paste an article that was proven to be misleading earlier.....but i dont think you actually read it anyway...nobody is denying white people are 63% and black people are 12%

You cant use those numbers to explain the data...its unscientific..its dishonest.. especially when the arrest data is available.

the white population of rural Iowa will go for months without seeing a cop whereas i cant step outside my door without encountering a patrol daily,

Black neighborhoods have a police station covering every 10 -15 blocks..some mostly white counties have only one precinct building for the WHOLE county...

these are the errors you are copying and pasting bruh

All you are doing is proving our case. Racial bias exists in policing which leads to higher black and minority arrests rates. The number of black arrests is much higher as a percentage of the population compared to whites because of the inherent bias that targets, stops and arrests black people. That is why we should use the population percentage and not the percentage of those arrested.

And even if we were to use the number of arrested as the universe, blacks are still killed by police at higher numbers.

ever notice these fukking sites have closed/no comments

so fearful of being challenged
"challenged"

so a keyboard warrior who probably read 10% of the article can pretend to know more than a Harvard professor who actually spent time to run a study

I did actually and the washpost article further explains while you're right about the data in raw numbers you're wrong about the nuance of the details.

to copy and paste an article that was proven to be misleading earlier.....but i dont think you actually read it anyway...nobody is denying white people are 63% and black people are 12%

You cant use those numbers to explain the data...its unscientific..its dishonest.. especially when the arrest data is available

Actually you can and they do go off of those numbers it gives a broader picture in probability and rates that blacks/whites are shot killed.

If in a sample 2 white ppl arrested got shot and 2 black ppl arrested got shot from cops then a simple observation would tell you blacks and whites get shot by police at the same rate. But that would assume all other factors (arrests, population, frequency of interaction, etc.) are all constant/equal to make this case.

You're focus on the raw numbers which are correct but glossing over other details to make a stronger case and then you just kept repeating the same thing that has been refuted.

the white population of rural Iowa will go for months without seeing a cop whereas i cant step outside my door without encountering a patrol daily,

Black neighborhoods have a police station covering every 10 -15 blocks..some mostly white counties have only one precinct building for the WHOLE county...

Exactly which attributes to the probability of blacks getting shot by police at a higher rate than whites would Simply based on these factors.
