im gonna go ahead and blame the city.... they let the Warriors, Raiders and A's leave.
Oakland has its fair share of problems but I salute the City for not helping fund a stadium for these billionaire owners. It’s fukking bullshyt these owners get to use tax payer dollars to build a stadium that offers minimal public benefit.

Is there a study that shows sports teams have minimal public benefit?

Was just in San Francisco and went to Oakland as well. Driving around the stadium and arena just felt weird.
All that history there and now all the teams will be gone. :francis:

And now they have no professional sports teams and probably won’t attract any for the foreseeable future :yeshrug:

This should legit be one of the biggest stories in sports. Major League Baseball is openly screwing the city of Oakland for a less favorable deal in a far smaller market while the commissioner lies to the public about negotiations even as the mayor of Oakland calls him out for lying to the city and the public. They’re even waiving the relocation fee.

At the same time the brewers owner is one of the heads of the committee handling the move while he’s currently threatening a move if the city of Milwaukee won’t give him $428 million for upgrades to a 20 year old park. It’s the sort of thing that would justify the league losing its antitrust exemption. Owners running their team into the ground and then holding the host cities hostage for money while they refuse to invest back. It doesn’t look much different than a protection racket in structure.
