Is there a study that shows sports teams have minimal public benefit?
It is what it isAnd now they have no professional sports teams and probably won’t attract any for the foreseeable future
In my intro to communication class I made a presentation arguing it does benefit cities. Not that I believe it, or its true. It was just easier to sell that lie, and I even made up sources! A+, great work, kid!Research Highlights Lack of Benefit from Public Funding of Sports Stadiums - Tennessee Star
A recent academic paper on the economics of sports stadiums again has highlighted how publicly funding professional sports stadiums does not provide the benefits promised by politicians.tennesseestar.com
DeleteWhat's with this obsession with Vegas? Who wants to watch baseball in 110 degree weather? Vegas is already a car-infested shytshow, I can't imagine how bad that's going to be with acres of asphalt near the strip.
The team and the league wants out of East Oakland badly. Sad day. I honestly don't think Vegas is the answer for a MLB teamThis should legit be one of the biggest stories in sports. Major League Baseball is openly screwing the city of Oakland for a less favorable deal in a far smaller market while the commissioner lies to the public about negotiations even as the mayor of Oakland calls him out for lying to the city and the public. They’re even waiving the relocation fee.
At the same time the brewers owner is one of the heads of the committee handling the move while he’s currently threatening a move if the city of Milwaukee won’t give him $428 million for upgrades to a 20 year old park. It’s the sort of thing that would justify the league losing its antitrust exemption. Owners running their team into the ground and then holding the host cities hostage for money while they refuse to invest back. It doesn’t look much different than a protection racket in structure.
i feel like many thought the same about the Vegas Golden Knights, and they were poppin from day 1 six years ago.The team and the league wants out of East Oakland badly. Sad day. I honestly don't think Vegas is the answer for a MLB team
There wont be an expansion draft to give them a leg up and the ownership is still cheap ass fukk. I guess we'll see if they get lucky or if they will remain Orioles status.i feel like many thought the same about the Vegas Golden Knights, and they were poppin from day 1 six years ago.
small ballpark = better potential for sell-through = more high-profile look on TV and public eye
they'll probably look to make a splash upon arrival in Vegas, too (trades, free agents) and player interest will increase because of location
franchise is going to get a ton of attention with this move because the press will continue to follow the progress, too
The raiders couldn’t afford to do anything on their own, no one wanted public money spent on themim gonna go ahead and blame the city.... they let the Warriors, Raiders and A's leave.
Who cares!? This is a region, Oakland is not some city off to itself in the middle of the state like Fresno or Sacramento. We can hop on BART and be at a warriors or giants game. I’m a niner fan, so they’re still here. Sharks playing hockey right in San Jose. Life goes on, these teams, while in Oakland, pulled fans from all over the bay, this doesn’t change the day to day lives of most citizensAnd now they have no professional sports teams and probably won’t attract any for the foreseeable future
