Nope. I'm older than most ppl here, though I'm pretty sure you're older than me. And smh @ your whole response.

Let's see now...negate the Triple Crown? Not at all. It's quite a feat. But that still doesn't mean Cabrera had a better all around year than Trout. Trout did everything on the baseball field EXCEPTIONALLY well. Cabrera hit. Wanna give Cabrera the "Most Valuable Hitter" Award? Cool. That's why they give out Silver Sluggers, and the Hank Aaron award. But to say that he was the better player this year is ludicrous.

Negate the World Series Appearance? Hmmm...one could rightfully make the argument that the Angels had more of a claim to the playoffs than the Tigers. You know, considering they (again) WON MORE GAMES then they did this year.

You sound like what I presume exactly what you are: a casual fan (if that).
Just like most casuals (and Tigers fans, though atleast they have an excuse),
you focus on the fancy named accomplishment, while completely ignoring everything else. What's sad is it seems the BBWA is full of ppl that follow the
same line of thinking.

Breh I know you're old (sarcasm in the last post):beli: and you also presumed wrong, just like you presumed Trout should've won. Far from a casual fan so sit down with that corny cliche that someone must be a casual fan if they don't agree, been following ball before you copped your first pair of Cecil Cooper Pumas. I'm not focusing on anything fancy, just facts and ignoring bs reasonings like hmmmmm......ONE more game in the regular season. You sound mad a hell trying to state a case for Trout. Get over it, Miggy won.:salute:

It's all good saying Cabrera won it in part because he led his team to the WS - the MVP is a regular season award & voting took place before the Playoffs :mjpls:

I think this is a time when the voters got it right. When a player gets the Triple Crown and makes the playoffs he's basically guaranteed to win MVP.

:jemile:

Cabrera had a great season.

Trout had an all-time great season.

They got it wrong and no one is surprised.

:manny:

Just curious why you arbitrarily select 9 games ?
Could it be because if you took a more accurate sum of games like say 30 or so you'd have no argument...

From Sept 1

Trout .257/380/455/836
Cabrera .308/378/654/1032

so, you devalue defensive metrics. fine. you dismiss baserunning. fine. care to explain to me trout having a higher OPS+ than cabrera yet cabrera being ahead of him as a hitter somehow this season, which was wrongly debated by the cabrera for mvp camp? bu bu but his batting average and rbi totals are higher. they made the playoffs with a worse record!!111 so many people using dinosaur stats its ridiculous, but then again its why my business makes hoards of money, since no one knows how to properly analyze and utilize the proper statistics in all sports

Im going to assume this post is directed me as weird as it is since im not in the cabrera mvp camp,i simply said he should be in the running...

I dont devalue defense metrics i just realize the flaws in how its calculated based on position...you dont want to put traditional stats ahead of it,i dont necessarily but this metric over other stats...

and actually its cabrera who had a higher OPS 999/963 with a higher average, more home runs and contrary to false reports made in this thread he was considerably better down the stretch...

Again just so were clear im not in either camp, but its just as ludicrous to me to say Cabrera shouldnt be in the discussion based on the season he had...

So take a sample of 9 games & it means nothing, take 30 (another arbitrary number) & it finishes the argument? How about take a full season (you know, what the MVP is awarded for) of Trout playing the best all-round baseball on the planet :russ:

As for that oh so important September run in: the Tigers went 18-13 to close the season. Impressive. Oh wait, the Angels went 19-11 :jawalrus:

Detroit finished the regular season with 13 straight games against the 66-96 Twins & the 72-90 Royals (also both bottom 5 in the league in ERA).

Praise Gawd that Miggy was there to carry them single-handedly through such a merciless schedule :bryan:

OPS+ has large bias towards Trout because of much value it values on Park Factors

3 stadiums in the AL west are in the bottom 8, Seattle and Oakland are inept offenses which only compunds the problem.

If the 2 switched jerseys, Miggy would probably have an OPS 25 pts higher than Trout

this is inaccurate.

This total, which has been bandied everywhere as the "reason why," doesnt include any of the October games.

Also, Trout's WAR was 3rd the last two weeks of the season while Cabrera's was not in the top 30.
