Oh I get it, let's negate the triple crown and World Series appearance and focus on more wins in a tougher division? Okay, check. Sounds like Great White Hope:cape: to me.

Nothing is Trout's fault, he did his thing, fukk you talking about him being "stuck"? My bad, you gotta be a teen.

Nope. I'm older than most ppl here, though I'm pretty sure you're older than me. And smh @ your whole response.

Let's see now...negate the Triple Crown? Not at all. It's quite a feat. But that still doesn't mean Cabrera had a better all around year than Trout. Trout did everything on the baseball field EXCEPTIONALLY well. Cabrera hit. Wanna give Cabrera the "Most Valuable Hitter" Award? Cool. That's why they give out Silver Sluggers, and the Hank Aaron award. But to say that he was the better player this year is ludicrous.

Negate the World Series Appearance? Hmmm...one could rightfully make the argument that the Angels had more of a claim to the playoffs than the Tigers. You know, considering they (again) WON MORE GAMES then they did this year.

You sound like what I presume exactly what you are: a casual fan (if that). Just like most casuals (and Tigers fans, though atleast they have an excuse), you focus on the fancy named accomplishment, while completely ignoring everything else. What's sad is it seems the BBWA is full of ppl that follow the same line of thinking.

I still love the he played in a tougher division on a team that won more games argument...You dont like the argument why give it any life ?
Im not suggesting Cabrera should win based on being in the playoffs,in baseball thats an irrelevant argument IMO unlike the other team sports BUT the ppl who shyt on that then play the waht if hypoethetical game look just as dumb....Does it matter the Tigers woulda missed the WS playing in the West ? Since were not judging that as a meaningful factor anyway ?

I woulda been ok with either winning,i knew Miggy was gonna win tho as baseball writers for the most part are dinosaurs who aint gonna change...

Can it be proven that Trout's magnificent defense prevented X amount of runs, gave them Y amount of wins & was indeed the backbreaker in this MVP dispute?

Said basically the same thing about a month ago and dudes got mad....when dudes wanted to pull the his defense puts him ahead how do you quantify his defense equaling runs and wins to make that case, you cant....All you can say is he plays a more demanding position and plays it well....

Wrong, there's stats that show how many runs he has saved and how many wins his defense accounts for.

Yea and those defense win shares have alot of flaws in how they are formulated...Its slanted toward CFers because they handle more plays...

so, you devalue defensive metrics. fine. you dismiss baserunning. fine. care to explain to me trout having a higher OPS+ than cabrera yet cabrera being ahead of him as a hitter somehow this season, which was wrongly debated by the cabrera for mvp camp? bu bu but his batting average and rbi totals are higher. they made the playoffs with a worse record!!111 so many people using dinosaur stats its ridiculous, but then again its why my business makes hoards of money, since no one knows how to properly analyze and utilize the proper statistics in all sports

Cabrera had almost 100 more ABs, and practically carried his team into the playoffs

Here is how Cabrera "carried" his team into the playoffs.

Last 9 games - .206/.250/.353 (Tigers went 6-3)

Here is how Mike Trout failed to carry his team into the playoffs

Last 9 games - .258/.439/.645 (Angels went 7-2)

:jemile:

Cabrera had a great season.

Trout had an all-time great season.

They got it wrong and no one is surprised.

My favorite parts of the voting....

Raul Ibanez got a 10th place vote. Austin Jackson got ZERO votes. :wtf:

An NY writer left Cano off his ballot. A ballot that included Derek Jeter and Rafael Soriano. :beli:

Jim Johnson got a 3rd place vote. Kimbrel got a 2nd. :heh:

Heyward finished 29th in the NL :what:

Or Fred Lynn. :beli:

On the main topic, I think a lot of the writers who vote on the MVPs are older heads who are not up on or willfully ignore sabermetrics.

At this point I think a lot of them are voting in spite of being very aware of the advanced stats. Part of it is their reluctance to give in to non-traditional ideas that didn't originate amongst writers.

Hence why I said willfully ignoring. They are aware but since it's a new idea and they've been writing for a long time they may not understand it fully and be able to adapt to the times. Some of it is legitimately confusing. I'm 24 and I'm still learning. Imagine being in your 50's learning the game one way and all of a sudden it flips and now you have to learn a whole new way to look at the game. It'd be tough for the older writers and fans.
