If this is true, it's honestly a shame. I'm gonna miss the console war banter, and while it is ultimately meaningless, things like console exclusivity and 1st party vs 3rd party stuff made the purchase more exciting. Seeing that go away is unfortunate.

We got used to Sega being 3rd party so that'll probably happen with MS as well, but like Sega, I can't help but feel like this was brought on by poor decision making when marketing their hardware.

Sony will eventually lean into this same approach even though it's a few years out.

Nintendo really the last of the Mohicans
SEGA is bouncing back tho.

Saga will never in a million years get back in the console industry. They’re now an extremely successful third party developer and that’s how they like it.

Breh, SEGA has ALWAYS been the wildcard. The fact that the current CEO is someone who was part of the "Dreamcast" era of SEGA and is the one who originally pushed for this revival stuff should tell you that breh is taking no prisoners.

Sega co-chief operating officer and Sega of America CEO Shuji Utsumi said this is a strategy he initiated that’s finally bearing fruit. Utsumi was instrumental in launching Sony’s first PlayStation console and Sega’s last console, the Dreamcast.

“We really want to show edginess and a rebellious mind-set,” said Utsumi, recalling Sega’s cultural impact as the “alternative” game console.

SEGA dropping a console after the remakes are established/released as a big dikk power move to Xbox going 3rd party is exactly something old SEGA would do. :sas2:

you keep talking but aint saying nothing of substance.

SEGA still has a manufacturing arm that still makes arcade boards and other hardware. Them making a console wouldn't be anything, hell they still are making mini consoles on the low.

They still have a "Super Game" project slated for 2026, if they dropped it with a new console, that would be HUGE for marketing and engagement.

They will probably have one more that exclusive streams games. MS is looking toward the future, console gaming is not it anymore.

Phones, tablets, smart tvs, computers, VR headsets, the infrastructure is already here. Just like their are countless laptop makers but their all running windows.

Sony stans eat this up like a win but MS has basically bought them out, they now own almost all the major IPs of the last 20 years and in the next 10 years you will be able to play those games on any platform. Its only a matter of time before playstation will be obsolete because you can play/stream the game on other devices. Then in another 20 yesars when MS contols the market, they might release a MS devive that plays there games.

The game has changed console arnt the media hubs like they used to be. Back in the day people bought a PS2 just to play DVDs but now you buy a console and all you get to do is game on it. The entire concpet is gone when you can play the game on any smart device. It pigion holds sony to keep making hardware while MS moves on. Nintendo will be fine either way because of the IPs they have but Sony IPs are far and few compared to MS and Nintendo. This is a big win for MS.

Yeah console gaming is becoming outdated

I'd much rather game on my S24 Ultra that runs God of War at 720p 15fps. shyt is so cash how I can play anywhere at anytime. No need to have a big ass box of hardware.

This place is full of trolls :snoop:

I ain't a troll. It's a fact that SEGA had been pimping out Xbox since the fall of the dreamcast. The fact that Xbox is dying & SEGA is sitting pretty means that it would be a great time for them to jump back into the console market.

From a business and marketing perspective, the mere buzz it would generate for a "legendary company returning to the fray" would be worth it's weight in gold.

They could also scoop up the remaining die-hard Xbot loyalists as the microsoft company continues to hemorrhage fanboys.

I want a healthy competitor to Sony in the high-end home console market, too, but there's not enough money in it for two companies. We can see that.

Sony's "competition" is now PC, insofar as they need to avoid people deciding that buying a gaming PC isn't better value than going with a plug-and-play box for your TV. But this was always going to happen. It costs too much to make AAA games, so consolidation was going to happen in publishing and someone was going to decide that their share of console gaming at the high end wasn't enough to justify the costs of being in the space. Since Microsoft was getting the least of that share, it's not a surprise that they changed direction first.

-$1200 PC
-$500 Console

Competition :unimpressed:
