I think more people would value education if our schools weren't so shytty... I learned damn near nothing in high school. Wasn't prepared for College at all, yes, it was partly my fault but the school was terrible. We didn't have to do any work 90% of the time

I agree. Our goverment doesn't even value education, so how can we expect the kids to value it. Education should be the number 1 thing we are spending on, but the goverment would rather argue over tax cuts for the rich, and the need for 100s of extra drones

Then at the end of the day we're blaming the kids for doing exactly what they are taught.

WIA has plenty of money for black people to go get career training breh. Anyone who wanted to get funded could, if they just did their research. I work in employment training and mad people are getting free training, certifications, etc. Republicans wanted to slash the shyt out of the program or eliminate it all together, Obama has vowed to increase funding for it.

Nah. I kinda agree with his statement. Yes a lot of kids might say they want to be ballers but just as many kids want to be other things and the whole idea that black kids are underachieving because they want to be ballers is overblown.

I think some of you need to spend some more time with the youth in the city.

There are exceptions (obviously) but for the most part the public school system is failing the African American child from New York to Philadelphia to Chicago. I know this first hand from my own experience (I'm only 29 so not that far removed) as well as observing todays youth via visits to my old schools, as well as visits to some of the schools that my peers, friends and families work in.

It's not just wanting to be a "baller". They lack direction PERIOD, with goals of being rich without any real understanding of how to get there without playing sports or the entertainment business.

Many are also part of that foolish HL subset that believes post-High School education is a "scam" when really all it takes is some research or someone to break down the concept of demand with regards to employment.
