actually you're wrong.

there's a different then speaking properly and sounding WHITE. sure if you speak properly they may think you are a "SQUARE." and you just may be a squares. squares dont do jail time often. so thats a good thing.

if you SOUND WHITE> you get called out for trying to sound WHITE. not speaking properly. i really wish people would get this.

That makes no sense, you speak how you speak. There should not even be the term sounding white as it denotes that white people carry themselves better then black people. This whole shyt is wrong.

But what if somebody gave up their dreams of being a rapper, got an education and a degree, but remained out of work because of the economy? :ohhh:

What if had they decided to develop their rapping skills, they would have been swimming in cash, but now they're struggling to find work? :ohhh:

If everybody followed this advice, there'd be no rappers. :ohhh:

she sounds so out of touch and cacish.

How many people actually call reading books acting "white" ?

Are black people out in droves really trying to become rappers?

This shyt I only really hear from white people, it's not as prevalent in the community as people make it seem.

:manny: In my city, I do see black youth are out in droves trying to become rappers and ball players. I live in Baltimore and am 26y/o, so I'm not to far out of the game...:skip:

Unrealistic scenario, but assuming it happened, it would be better than what's happening now. More Black folks would be employed in better jobs. The odds of making it in the music business, even to the point of only needing a part-time job outside it, are minimal.

You may not see it personally or recognize it but alot of black people look down on other blacks who don't talk with slang in every other sentence, or if they speak very clear and succintly. It's true no sense in denying it.

I'm not denying that it exists, but it's not happening on a level where it's a significant obstacle that is halting progress like that. That's largely a myth perpetuated by racist whites.

Large amounts of black people aren't afraid to learn and do well in school because somebody might call them white.

Yes, there is a lack of educational accomplishments among blacks but that's not because people are scared of being called a square. It's not that simplistic.

I know a similar mentality exists amongst poor whites with how they make fun of "city people" for speaking proper English and dressing a certain way

Never you mind....
I agree with what she's saying. There's nothing wrong with having a dream or hobby but you also have to be realistic. Very few people make it to the NBA or NFL and very few people get record deals. Education may not be for everyone but there are other ways to be successful (starting your own business being one of the biggest alternatives).

When we're young we all have pipe dreams. But do you really black youth are out in droves trying to make basketball and rap their main focus in life?

I bet if you asked 100 black students what their goals are in life, the majority will list completing college as one of them. I'm not seeing tons of kids dropping out of school to be rappers or ball players. Just because a kid plays on his high school team or raps with his friends doesn't mean that's exactly what he wants to do in life.

ok but lets be real bro alot of nikkas come from fukked up situations
like been born without a break
now for the black kids that come from atleast decent people might not have money but still some type of sense...they not strivin to be rappers and ballers
for one athletics is EVERY young mans dream regardless of race
might stop at certain ages but thats society overall for males
now rap is more of a hustle for nikkas possibly to get famous but yea you got wannabe rappers youtube rappers but i think thats more of as long as he doing something else in life wats wrong with tryna become a rapper?

every kid should strive for school its just alot of these kids is followers and they aint got no hustle but at the same time they got ALL the hustle they just dont know or aint been schooled on shyt on how to put shyt together to make everything work in they benefit

which i think ties in with more of a push for shedding light on black business owners. imo you learn the most in America from being around a person making they own money.you can go to school be broke eat noodles thats cool but bottomline you still doin this to make money. we need to find ways to blend in all that shyt cuz i think alot of kids dont have the luxury of goin away to school just for the sake of what society told them its good but money is still the end goal imo

We have to stop falling into the trap of judging the entire race by the absolute worst examples...We're doing racists jobs for them.

all she's saying is make sure learn something useful so you can be useful in society
everybody can't be beyonce and jay-z
thats true. but another truth is, everyone cant be a doctor, lawyer, or an engineer.

thoes are ELITE jobs for ELITE people. what are the rest of the folks supposed to do in the mean time? somebody is going to have to build a house. someone is going to have to install the electrical system, the plumbing, etc. those things dont take college degrees, but it does take education. and those professions still can pay well if you've been on for a while. back in the day those professions paid even better then a lot of non ELITE jobs for those who had college degrees.

Not really, maybe if we looked down on those who acted ratchet or ignorant as a race like the indians and asians do in their own race. I think we would be better off as a race. It's just my opinion though.
