actually you're wrong.

there's a different then speaking properly and sounding WHITE. sure if you speak properly they may think you are a "SQUARE." and you just may be a squares. squares dont do jail time often. so thats a good thing.

if you SOUND WHITE> you get called out for trying to sound WHITE. not speaking properly. i really wish people would get this.

I never understood how people don't get this. nikkas act like sounding white and sounding educated are mutually exclusive.

Bryant Gumbel sounds white. Malcolm X, Tupac, Martin Luther King, Barack Obama....all smart brothers. None of them sounded white.

Man any nikka denying this is true, either doesn't know many black people or live in a sheltered ass place. Way too many nikkas wanna be rappers, ball players, promoters, producers, etc.

I asked my 14 yo nephew what he wanted to be one day:

"I wanna play in the NBA".....What if that doesn't work out though? "NFL player" :smugfavre:.....Name something besides sports, a normal job you could see yourself doing......"CEO" :smugfavre:

:patrice:

Can't get mad though. We were dumb like that once. If I could go back and tell myself that we never became the next Deion Sanders, and to focus on the path I ended up taking, I'd be way further along....instead I wasted most of my formative years on bullshyt.

lol@anybody having a problem with what she said. Michelle Obama is educated and experienced enough to know the unique set of socioeconomic and cultural hurdles facing black youth in this country. She wasn't presenting some thesis on that. She was just acknowledging something that is real--an anti-academic mentality and overemphasis on "swag" (for lack of a better and lengthier explanation) that is present among not all, but a good portion of underclass black youth--and warning against that in a short, brief manner. That's all there is to be said.

Beyonce sells sex for a living, promoting negative stereotypes for black females, don't be ignorant. Jays donations mean nothing, that money is earned by destroying the community he could donate it all and it still wouldnt make a difference because it is cursed money. you my brother need to quit being narrow minded and notice How some people sacrifice the afterlife for this life, like Sean carter

peace be with you

Is Beyoncé sexy? Yes. Does it help her sell? Yes. But dam, I think the popularity of her music has something to do wit it too. If it was just sex selling, a lot of these other R&B/Pop chicks wouldn't be struggling. Being sexy is NOT a negative stereotype. At least Bey is one of the few women out there who actually waited until she got married to have a family.

To discredit Ms. Obama simply because she is friends with her is just straight bullsh!t.

peace be with you!

we know this already Michelle

how about we start showing more stories of black people building businesses from the ground up?those stories seem to be missing from our community or we dont shed light on them

im tired of this Kumbaya All American go to school fantasy bullshyt

not everybody gone wanna go to school and get into debt.... thats the reality i hate to say it

she not wrong tho im just sayin...sometimes the Obamas sound so out of touch imo

like a commercial to a certain extent

Tell Michelle to eliminate the scam known as student loans and lower the cost of college education

until then balling and rapping it is

she sounds so out of touch and cacish.

How many people actually call reading books acting "white" ?

Are black people out in droves really trying to become rappers?

This shyt I only really hear from white people, it's not as prevalent in the community as people make it seem.

actually you're wrong.

Basically.

There are two mental paths to take once you graduate school and get on the path to success (as a young black person) you can:
1) get older and as you get older become more out of touch... and even though it's said with love... say things that further divide your community and romanticizes the situation that most of your people are in. Because you're too out of touch to realize that urban youth aren't trying to hear this bullshi1t and you are further isolating them. They already feel like the world can't understand them, and they are already dealing with mental brainwashing.
2) Or you can become educated, become successful. Not become out of touch to the point that you no longer know how to effectively encourage the youth of your race. Not become out of touch to the point that you are using cliches to describe situation you no longer have an understanding about. Not isolate the most important segment of our society.

bytch talking about don't become a baller. That's exactly what her and her husband are in every sense of the word. And We can't pretend like this lady isn't simplifying the situation. Like their friend JayZ said, "Hustle out of hopelessness" . Nobody is saying acting white = reading books. Real people know Exactly what it means to act white... and they aren't speaking about talking proper or education. B1tch acting like every nikka who's graduating with a STEM degree is swaggless. GTFoh.

She encourages it while the inner-city schools are being closed down, social programs are being cut to shreds, jobs are thin everywhere and the Obama's only show up to the black community when it's going to be on the news or photo-op. Capitalism at it's finest.

The problem is its not just black youth that does this, and kids having immature dreams isn't whats holding them back.

So by bringing this up she is oversimplifying the issue and blaming the failures of society on kids who are only imitating what society shows them.

Thank you for the reply, but being married then spreading your legs for the entire world is not being modest or anything to look up to, I think we can agree on that.

Peace be with you

Even if it was a general problem why would it be wrong to bring it up specifically to black people, she is talking to college graduates the people who will be influencing society in the future
