So its cool for George Bush to stand up for "good hardworking Christian families" (nice choice of buzzwords, Republicans ) but, its a problem for Obama to do the same for blacks and minorities? Okay.

Its the c00n mentality that has blacks comfortable with being marginalized out of fear of upsetting white folk.

Something that I see brought up often is for black people to look at what Hispanics or Asians are doing--I don't think that this takes into account the kind of significant differences in the way these groups of people have been, um, 'racialized' (for lack of a better term) in the United States. All three groups could do the same kind of work and black people would see the least amount of change. This isn't an argument that we shouldn't look to those other groups or shouldn't try to get on our school boards, but it's kind of annoying when it's implied that we just need to try harder or something.

Honestly I feel many of the personal attacks and vendetta assaults coming from blacks that feel "betrayed" by Obama feel the same way that West does. They feel there was a sense of "you owe me" since you are black and you became president and you need to tend to me to prove you care about blacks.

I never expected accommodations and "favors" or what have you as a black person from him becoming president and always looked at his presidency more as a symbolic approach.

But yeah anyway Cornel West does seem like he caught feelings not being so adamantly close to the president as he had hoped to be.
