first I wanna say Dyson's "street" dialogue has gotten VERY tiring. It seems so forced and rehearsed. I can imagine him spending hours in front of the mirror at home, practicing his rants and hand movements. Chill breh...
I lost respect for West awhile ago because he seems to have no understanding of nuance. The world is not black and white, yet he constantly views Obama on that scale. I'm not here to dikk ride the president - I respect him, I think he's real smart, I like more than a few of the things he has done...but he is far from perfect, and in some ways worse than Bush/Cheney (drones, assassinating US citizens, etc).
I can't take you seriously if you want to pretend like Obama has the power to just give black people stuff. West (and Dyson) criticized the stimulus because it allegedly didn't benefit black people, yet so much of that money went into inner cities and urban states. You expect Obama to write up a stimulus specifically for black people, brehs?
West spends so much time focusing on the negatives that he never touches on the positive. And then he wants to pretend like Obama hasn't done anything to help blacks. We gonna pretend like Obamacare isn't a major benefit to blacks (and minorities in general), from the Medicaid expansion to free preventive care? We gonna pretend like Obama didn't lower the crack/cocaine sentencing disparity laws? We gonna pretend like credit card reform didn't help black people? Let's be real, Obama has done some nice things.
The black community isn't gonna go anywhere if it just sits around complaining. I see Hispanics organizing, pressuring congress, and getting shyt done. I see Asians in California making their voices heard. What are black people doing? The entire point of Obama's first run was to inspire people to organize. How come inner cities aren't organized? And don't point to Al Sharpton's snitch ass and his marches. Nobody gives a fukk about marching in 2014. Organize, take over your school boards, take over your neighborhood boards, impact local elections. That's how you change shyt, from the bottom up. You can't start at the top (Obama) and expect the laurels to trickle down. Hispanics understand this, black people don't.
