Methodman and Redman get a cold reception at summer jam. MethodMan says he’ll never perform there again cause of generation gap.

Oh well, it goes both ways. A lot of older rap fans wouldn't know any of these songs put out by younger artists. Hip hop is a youth driven genre always has been always will be. Of course the younger folks ain't t gonna be checking for artists from 30 years ago like that
They need a young head stage and an old head stage. Can’t force either side to watch what they don’t want to watch :yeshrug:

This a miss on Red/Meth part. Don't know if SummerJam is anything like Powerhouse in Philly, but if it's the same crowd, them nikkas 30+ years older than the average age in the crowd.

Hate to admit it, but they in the elder/senior hip-hop crowd.

Man listen, in Europe and other continents, Wu Tang and other rap legends are considered Gods there. And therein lies the problem, hip hop as a culture never had true gatekeepers. It became an exploitative corporate culture.

This is why mumble no talented rappers have been able to prosper and there is a lack of reverence for our “elders”. Festivals like Ozzfest can have a combination of new and old talent but they are all treated with the same respect.

Can’t say the same for HipHop. Very few artists will command the same respect once they reach 40. After that, they’re considered finished.
Ozzfest is a festival for a mix of artists - part of what carries genres like rap all the way is the fans, hip-hop oldheads need to carry things continuously.
Ironically Future is an old head to Gen Z
His breakout album as Future came out 12 years ago, his first mixtape came out 14 years ago.
For comparison - The Beatles' run was 6 years in full.

He is an old head.
Exactly. Rock fans make sure their children grow up listening to The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Black Sabbath, Metallica etc. Their parents connect them to ‘their’ culture.

Us? We throwaway and discard it once it’s no longer “popping”. This goes for R&B too. White folk are dominating that genre because of a combination of them gate keeping and stopping our talented brothers and sisters from prospering.

There are way better singers in our church alone than Adele and Sam Smith, but they aren’t given that push. Instead we have Cardi B, Sexy Red, Meg The Stallion and others in their mould being pushed to the forefront.

This is all done by design. We need to push by and support our talented ones a lot more but it’s an uphill battle against the machine.
I don't think white people are running R&B.

But there are more white people in America and Europe than the rest of us - and they're the biggest audience.
I think things are on display in here - when I go to the Booth - Black acts that should get more shine do not.
