Above the fray.
Master P is an businessman not an artist.

It would be like me starting a tech company. I have no love for tech, no eye for tech, no idea of what tech savvy people want or care about, no idea how to give a product legs or longevity, market placement, etc....Basically I dont know anything. I would finance it, hire great people who know the business and are great at it....and stay behind the scenes totally. You would never see me.

That's what P needs to do with music/movies now. His products-because of his constant cash grabs-have a stigma where people pre-judge them as trash.

Take his shoes. I'm not a sneaker head, but them shyts look like trash to me. What if he paid young kids/creative directives who know whats poppin, got with marketing people who suggested a better name...did all of the shyt that I mentioned with the tech example above...got some influencers (whoever the hell the popular young rappers are now) to rock them and.....only revealed it was his product when the brand was maybe in its 3rd year?
his name is his brand, so that's why he's attached to the marketing of all these products

he has an assembly line approach to content and products, which is why at his peak No Limit was releasing albums every week

the name of his production team fit his mantra, "beats by the pound"

he's never been interested in quality, just releasing product
because he owns everything he puts out, he figures that eventually he will break even and turn a profit on whatever he releases. whether it takes a month or 5years

the internet
no way am I going to hate on P. he is a positive businessman. his son is his partner. I respect the guy. I will order IGTH2 at home and watch just to support. He said himself, that his shoes may not be the best in terms of style, but you do what you can to produce a quality product and the more successful it becomes, the more you are able to invest back in to it to improve the product. I remember the very first NIKE shoe. nobody but cacs were wearing them shyts and no black person would be caught dead in them shyts today. likewise with other brands like Reebok and NB. black support took those brands to the next level, especially NIKE. we out here killing each other over Jordans but clown a black man for having his own shoe, which between his and NIKE are produced in the same sweatshops and cost virtually the same to make.
how old are you to remember Nike's first shoe? Nike was founded in the early 70's for runners.

the whole "its a black owned company so I cant knock it" argument needs to drop.

People care about the product before anything else...
...if its not good, its not good.

Nike was successful before Jordan...
...their core market was runners.
...of course Jordan took them to another level...but they still had a market prior to Jordan.

Same w/ NB...they had their core market for years.

Who/what is the market for P's shoes?
Them shyts is clearly a cash grab because there was no thinking behind them...they are ugly, and nobody can argue they arent.
He uses the "this is a black owned company" as a marketing angle...nothing else.

Assuming you have access to a decent system or a great pair of headphones

C Murder feat BG “Yall heard of Me”
2005 (off the Truest shyt I ever said)

C murder was that nikka, (IMO) had he stayed focused on music he would’ve been able to carry the Tank (with the right production/oversight).

He had the respect of his peers, and eye for talent, and he made great music

P has gotten to where he is off hustle and determination. TBH, he can't do anything well besides marketing. Like clockwork when a rapper dies, he making a video about people showing fake love and shyt :russ: when a new Southern rapper comes out, he comes out trying mentor them :lolbron:
His rapping is just him talking a lil faster :mjlol:

He was great at finding talent and figuring out what people like, as an artist he's mediocre tho.
Just seen the movie and was :ohhh: when they put in the nip basketball court

No product, no movement.

Nowadays and even at times during his prime, P moved like a classic executive, suit. They just see what makes money, and chase trends. As a result, the final product, looks like a knock-off, rip-off of the real thing. They don't care as long as it makes money. It isn't about the art or if people feel it...who cares. It is a business. It is all about making money.

P used to have a product with BBTP.

Now, P is trying to go the 2-bit hustler, used car salesman route, pulling a fast one over folks with cheap product.

People ain't buying it, literally.

That is the difference between P and :birdman: and :jprince2:. P is just as good of a hustler as them, maybe even better. But Birdman and J prince, even at their age, know who to ride with and invest in and stay up with the times much longer than P. J Prince's son found Drake, and the rest is history.

Ever since BBTP left No Limit, P ain't been the same. Mannie Fresh left Cash Money, and :birdman: ain't miss a beat, literally.

As somebody mentioned in this thread, he lacks the critical eye/ear or a creative consultant to know what works with today's entertainment. Or at least find his lane to thrive, without biting someone else's wave.

They all had better contingency plans, invested in the future, and had artists who could execute the plan

By the time Mannie left, Wayne had gotten so hot he was commanding production from the biggest producers in the game

Still none of them managed to make toys, play in the NBA, put out 3 movies (not including the cluster fukk that is IGH2) and still have a successful chip business

P also played a key role in rebranding Snoop, who was on the verge of self destructing.

Post 98 I've always seen Master P as mix between China and Walmart.

Never ahead of the curve, always looking at what other people are doing and flooding the market with a cheaper version :mjlol:

Then he makes interviews talking about how high integrity he has and how real he is, when he's really just a very money hungry, independent, shameless, and opportunist business man. This should be applauded imo :yeshrug:
